Set up: flowers

Stephanie, on July 30, 2018 at 22:35 Posted in Before the wedding 0 12
For our centerpieces we are planning on having a small vase with one rose and some babies breath (baby’s breath?). If we were to set them up the day before do you think that would be ok or would they be likely to wilt or anything?

Probably being paranoid but the big big day is Saturday!!!! Eeeeep!

Oh thank you soooo much! I was planning on getting them from a locally owned shop anyway!!!
Thank you for the tips, you are the best! I’ll ask the venue if they have any better place to store them for the night!

One night should be completely fine. A bouquet from the grocery store even lasts longer than one night before wilting.

One night will be fine! For my friend's wedding, she ordered flowers from costco (including roses and baby's breath) and they were delivered on Thursday for her wedding on Sunday. We kept them in her friend's basement and they still looked good on the Sunday. I then left them in the trunk of my car after the wedding until Monday morning and they still looked pretty good.

If you're worried, just trim the ends a bit more before placing them on the tables and change the water, adding a bit of sugar.

Florist here. Girl, roses and baby's breath will last for 10 days, as long as you change the water daily. Do not worry about setting them up a day ahead. Just ensure the room is not hot also make sure you clean your vases in the dishwasher or by hand to kill any bacteria or chemicals that could be lingering in the glassware. If you can find a cool dark space to store them overnight, that will help to preserve them as well. I'm doing my fresh flower centerpieces 3 days before the wedding. Also, if you buy the flowers from a florist shop they will have better longevity compared to a grocery store.

I’ll be honest, in the summer heat I would be concerned about them lasting the night. I wouldn’t risk it. I would also reach out to your florist to ask before you decide to do it, because they’ll have a better idea of whether they’ll hold up.

Usually it will last tje day before when you set it up.

If your concerned and want to set up the rose and ask the venue to store them if there is space in their fridge.

That's great but I meant what type of environment would they be in? Warm, cold? I don't know much about flowers, so I'd just be concerned that they'd wilt if you leave them in the venue for over 24 hours.

I would say it depends what kind of environment they would be in. If you keep the room cold enough then it should be okay (seeing as how people normally recommend keeping the flowers in a fridge the night before to avoid wilting).

We get access to our reception hall the day before we get married so I was planning on setting them up then!

Hey Stephanie! That sounds beautiful! I would probably wait until the day of. Where would you be keeping the flowers otherwise?
