September Wedding- do we postpone or wait it out?

Jenna, on April 27, 2020 at 18:55 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13
I am feeling extremely overwhelmed. Our wedding is September 12, in New Brunswick. Our province is holding strong and some restrictions have begun to slowly lift.
I don’t want to jump the gun and postpone the wedding, but I’m feeling so much stress from friends and family asking what we plan to do..
Am I right to wait it out until July? Should I postpone now and get it over with? This day has been 1.5yrs in the making.. my heart breaks just thinking about it.

Oh you should be okay... it depends really I guess on how willing you are to flex with your plans of the day... In my case, we're having a super short engagement (4 months) and super simple wedding plans to begin with, so we're just going to roll with the punches. I do hope at least our families can attend though. I know venues are probably tricky to deal with too though. In your case it's probably good to have a backup date with your venue. New Brunswick looks to be in very good condition so I would think by September they should still be. Even here in Ontario, things will probably start opening up by June. Fingers crossed and prayers that we all have our wedding day work out!

I personally would wait it out until July. Maybe reach out to vendors etc and try to secure a back up date as a just in case but don’t make a definite decision until July 😊

I would get your plan b set up, and then set a date in July whether you decide post pone to plan b or stay Sept 2020.

We have been engaged already for 2.5 years already and been planning since that day, we have our plan b and found out our venue has no spots available in 2021 even if we are forced to post pone, which means it would be post poned to 2022 which then means we will be engaged for 4.5 years total.... I DO NOT OUR PLAN B TO HAPPEN!

Ours is in Saint John in October. We're waiting until July to decide, but our decision will be based on travel restrictions since FH's family is coming from Wisconsin and Newfoundland. It doesn't look great, but we're ok with that!

It wouldn't hurt to wait until June, just in case we have a flare up of cases and Higgs and Russell put us back into quarantine. If all goes well small gatherings should be ok, but we might not know the number of people allowed until much closer so you might need to alter your guest list. If you wait you might not need to contact all your guests multiple times as things change. I've heard people say that the yellow phase is up to 50 people, but I have no idea if that is accurate or what other conditions you would need to meet to have 50 people together.

Hey girl, ours is September 26. We are also waiting until July to make a definite decision, and are lucky we haven’t sent out any invites yet. I’m in Alberta, so it’s still a bit rough here. However! We did book a back up date wit our venue and vendors for next May JUST in case. Regardless, we will still be getting married this September with our 15 guests if that’s how it has to be, and will have the reception next May. You feel SOOO much more relieved knowing you have a plan B. With that said, we are still really clinging onto hope that September will go though!! Even if we can only have 50 or so guests, we will cut our guest list smaller and go ahead. It’s way better than 15.

Postponing option is best to wait until mid July to see where things are with the province. There will be many questions of the wedding still taking place or later next year. This isn't what we all expected to happen and couples postponing too.

Good thing coming out of this situation is the lift is uprising slowly and hopefully the gathering will go back to 50 people or more. Couples wanting this solution will feel better in a month or two. Lets hope this uprising goes as smooth as the provinces can have everyone back to work too and savings coming in for wedding planning for couples.

Hey Jenna! So sorry you’re dealing with this stress. Covid-19 has definitely removed some of the shine from wedding planning.

You’re in a tricky spot for sure. September is still quite a ways off, and NB does seem to be in good shape/have a robust and concrete plan for re-opening - so I totally get why you are hesitant to jump the gun. Have you spoken with your venue and other vendors yet? If I were in your shoes, I would start a dialogue with your vendors about their approach and the possibility of placing a soft hold on a back up date in 2021 (if waiting that long is feasible for you). Then, best case scenario, they can hold your back up date until you make your final call in July. Worst case scenario, some or all of them can’t hold a new date but you learn valuable info about their availability/overall approach to cancelation and rebooking, in case you are forced to postpone come July. All that to say, I don’t think you’re at all wrong to stand your ground for the time being!! Especially given the timing of your wedding and the region you’re in.

It’s the worst feeling, the unknown. No one had ever fathomed this would happen and now no one knows what to do..

I’m so sorry to hear Smiley sad we’re in the same position. I would say if your heart is set then wait it out until at least June.
