September 2022 Wedding.. how far in advance do you plan?

Karina, on December 27, 2020 at 16:14 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 16
September 2022, is our planned wedding month. Just deciding on the 24th or 17th. How far in advance would you start planning? I feel like I'm prematurely planning. I want to send save the dates to 10 of our family members with wedding invitations to the remaining at later dates? When should I send the save the dates out? and am I prematurely planning?

I think there’s no such thing a premature planning!! I started looking in February so that I could take my time choosing vendors I love !! Now all my vendors are booked and we just sent our save the dates last week , we will be sending formal invitations in a few months!
But I love not having that stress of vendors now!!

I have my venue as it's on the lake in my parents backyard so that venue is set in stone..which is great.

You're not prematurely planning and its never to late to start. Book your venue once you know the guest list count and vendors since they may be hard to book especially since rescheduling may be in effect for many couples. Smart move on less Save the Dates to send out as many more can be sent out later unless you have the actual invitations done by then and sent one time than Save the Date.

My fiancé and I are getting married September 17, 2022. We were really excited after getting engaged and started visiting venues quickly. We quickly found that places were already filling up due to so many postponed weddings.

We are both anxious and excited, so we've booked the important suppliers (photographer, dj and coordinator - food and alcohol are provided by our venue). We also found that our extended families were asking for details during our Christmas Zoom calls. We sent out save the dates through our wedding website (The Knot) as a couple of our friends are planning / postponing their own weddings as well - just wanted to make sure people penciled in the date. We'll likely send out real invites 4-5 months in advance.

I’m October 2022 and we just booked our venue. In venue searching, we were told that 2022 was starting to book up quick because of everyone postponing.

Now that we have the venue booked, we’ll start looking at photographers and other vendors, but we’re not really as much in a rush as we were with the venue.
We’ll send out invitations (we’re not doing Save the Dates) probably early next year so people have notice. I will let family who are out of country know sooner since they have more to coordinate.

My advice is to start booking important things (venue, officiant, photographer, caterer, etc) sooner rather than later! We are getting married in May 2022 and I want to have all the important stuff booked by end of March so if any 2021 weddings have to get postponed it won't effect my wedding!

I'm trying to book a venue for our August 2022 wedding, everything else we can do at a later time. I just feel like getting the bigger things booked is better right now, especially if they have that you can change the date if needed in your agreement (this is something we are looking for).

I’m with you! We are thinking Aug 2022. I wanted next year but my fiancé really thinks we should wait and hope things are somewhat normal by 2022 and we hopefully won’t have to worry about covid restrictions then. It seems forever to me as I’m excited and want to plan. Venue is taken care of as I’m having it at my farm. I feel like I want to do stuff, but it is over a year and a half away!

Thanks. The save the dates are for the best man, the parents, siblings, and maid of honor. If more for a keep sake. I know a few will keep them and put them in scrapbooks etc.

I think it's not too early to book the venue and photographer and anything else you feel you need to have that is date specific (dj, coordinator etc) but I agree it is far too early for invites or save the dates. If you're only planning on save the dates for 10 people I am assuming they are close friends and family so that to me is fine.

I believe it's normal to send STDs around 10-12 months and invites 4-6 months before. As a pandemic bride I'm glad we stalled and didn't send out invites early, we did send STDs and I had the added job of reaching out to tell all those people our plans had changed, but this is hopefully not a problem for 2022 weddings!🤞

The dates are just deciding between do we want it close to Thanksgiving or earlier. The venue is all ready set as it's a backyard wedding on the lake at a parent's house.

It's way too early for invites. Things can change so much for you in the span of two years and it's hard to make guests commit to your wedding so far in advance when so many things could happen.

Like Patricia says, sending Save the Dates 12 months in advance for those who have to make travel arrangements is fine.

You mentioned you're picking between two dates: is this due to availability of your venue of choice or are you just deciding dates. If it's the latter, one thing you can work on that won't feel premature is research the actual venues that interest you: pricing, menu options, amenities, upgrades available should you want them, etc and see if it works in your budget. You won't be able to do a site-visit for another month anyway so you might as well take the time to research pricing before making your runs to different venues to take a look.

I would send out save the dates once you book your venue! Just in case they only have certain dates available. If you’re planning it for a backyard (or somewhere that does not require you to book the location) I would send out save the dates maybe 12-18 months in advance!? Generally if they have quite a ways to travel send them out sooner rather than later as courtesy.
