Sending invites

Tamara-Lynn, on August 8, 2022 at 15:48 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 16
Although our wedding isn’t happening till October 26 2024, when would be the appropriate time to send out the invites?

Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated ♥️

I made the mistake of sending out our invitations 9 months ahead when it should have been about 3 months about with 6 weeks reply date. I did want to keep ahead of my final count and details 6 months ahead of time. Big mistake to learn from.

Best time is 2 - 3 months ahead with 4- 6 weeks reply date depending on your guest list.

We are getting married May 6, 2023 I had sent out STD approximately 1 month after we got engaged (May 14, 2022) just cause I was so excited and you know what happened?? we got double booked, accidently. Thank goodness the venue was able to fix it and we got a new date May 6. Luckily those STD were digital so it was a simple fix to resend. Now i'm just taking my time, working on the invites (waiting for the online sales/discounts). Planning on sending out by December / January.

Yeah the venue would be driving distance for both our families, flights would only be required for a few people. Thanks for the tips Smiley smile

You can send a Save the Date with the location of your city (or venue if it's already booked) so people can make those arrangements. This can be done up to a year in advance. Don't listen to people who tell you they need to book their flight more than 12 months ahead of time - no one does that.

Your invite, which will include all the necessary details of the event (like start time, food options, etc) should go out no more than six months in advance. If you're taking online RSVPs, you really don't need more than 3-4 months in my opinion. Assuming your venue needs numbers anywhere between 4-8 weeks prior to the event, that still gives your guests a whole month to go online and RSVP.

Save the Date a year before and an invite 6 months before!

IMO sending invites out two years in advance is not a good idea, there are so many things that can happen within that time. If you need to get them out wait until atleast 1 year before....

Great question, I am getting married in October 2024, away from home. I was wondering the same thing.

If guests need to book accommodations, more notice would be needed right?

No offense to anyone but sending out invites early doesn't mean you get to claim dibs on a guest. If I received two invites, I won't automatically choose the one that was sent to me first. It depends on my relationship with the person/couple.

If you're sending out physical invites with a long RSVP period, guarantee a ton of guests will forget. If you make your RSVP date too early, a lot of people may either not be able to commit so early or things come up after RSVPing yes forcing them to change to a No. Which then screws up your numbers. Not to mention how anxious you'll be for no reason - just look at how many people freak out here when their invitees don't respond to RSVPs right away.

Even if you're having a ton of guests who need to make travel and accommodation arrangements, invites need not be sent more than a year in advance, let alone two.

I'm getting married September 2023 and sent my STD beginning of July because I knew there was a back log of weddings for 2023 and I wanted to be selfish and be the first one to send them out before my competition did. My friend told me she had 3 weddings in September 2023 thank god none of them landed on my day Smiley laugh I've asked her to do a reading.

Now I struggle when to send out the actual invitation some sat 6 months some say 3. so I may just do 4 months in advance lol.

I’m getting married in October 2024 as well and will likely send mine out early 2023 to get it out of the way! I think it is all personal preference and depending on your circumstances Smiley smile

If you have a date confirmed and locked in, STD can go whenever.

Depending on how you are sending actual invites, I would send digitals 2 months prior and physicals 2-3 months prior

Save the Dates are sent a year out and actual invites usually range from 3-6 months in advance!
