Seating Charts

Naomi, on August 20, 2018 at 14:15 Posted in Wedding reception 0 12

We're having a buffet at our wedding reception so I don't need to assign seats, but I would like to assign tables. If you have a seating chart, are you doing organizing it by tables or alphabetically?

I was planning on going with an alphabetical seating chart so that it's easier for people to find their assigned table (we will have approximately 100 guests at the reception), but my FH said he'd prefer if we organized it by table so I'd love to hear what other folks are doing.

We ended up with only 11 tables of 7 or 8 people each, so I decided to organize my seating chart by table number, with a nod to alphabetical order by listing the names at each table alphabetically by surname. I’m taking the chart to the printers today! I will try to remember to post a pic of the framed seating chart after the wedding.

I personally am organizing by table, but I am only expecting around 110 guests. Weddings larger than 150 guests I would think about an alphabetical arrangement.

We have 22 tables and 165 guests. I was going to do alphabetic but it looked funny because there so many B’s (my last name) and L’s (fiancés last name) so we are now doing it by table.

Since you only have 100 guests, it wouldn't take people very long if you wanted to do it by table. I personally like it by table because it looks more uniform.

I would do it alphabetically by last name. It would be easiest for your guests.

I would personally go by table - but whatever you think would work out best!

I was told by my wedding planner that alphabetical by last name is the best way to do it. But depending on where you are by table number can be more common.

We are expecting around 150 people so I will probably do mine by last name to make it easiest on the guests.

I wish i had saved on the escort cards and had gone with a chart. I had assigned tables by colour. To make the pride flag colours work, each table was going in order of the colour.

We did by table. I have actually only seen it done by table but I like it. It does take a bit more time to find where you are sitting, but you get to see who you are sitting with. And, it looks a little neater I think because each table will have about the same number of names, whereas by alphabet, some letters will have many names and some will have 1 or 2.

Organized alphabetically by last name. as a guest. I find it such a pain in the butt to search under table number (regardless of the size of the wedding).

Personally, I agree with your sister. Just arrange it by table. It won't take that long too find, if you don't have 30 tables or something... I have 14 tables currently, and will be arranging by Table.

Alphabetically would work, but I think people would rather see who they are sitting with immediately, then starting back searching for everyone else at Table 6...

By tables. I am in the same boat - but we are having 3 0r 4 long tables which in total will fit 200 people.... so I will probably need to assign seating.

Either way I would organize it by table and not by name. Unless you would consider your grandparents and your 3rd cousins to be equals at your wedding you should consider who is closer to you not only by who you see most but by who is your immediate family. If you have circle tables then you don't need to put who should sit next to who but at least who is sitting there so that they can converse well.
