Seating Chart for 25 Tables - Two part question

Janine, on April 5, 2018 at 22:23 Posted in Wedding reception 0 14

How did you do your seating chart for a large wedding?

My Fiance thinks that we should do the seating chart by table number (tables of 10 people) and I think we should do it alphabetically by last name.

Also, how did you display your chart and most cost effective manner if you did do it Alphabetically?

I was debating about a Canvas Print from Staples and just have it propped up on a table against the wall by the entrance....

I think over 100 should be alphabetical. I have been to weddings where it has been a hectic process or people get tired of looking and just assume they are sitting with certain people...
You can put their names individually, as everyone needs a seat. They dont need to be listed as mr and mrs everywhere haha

If you feel inclined to list families together, just put couples with separate last names under the persons name closest to the couple. If you are close with both guests, I am more traditional and would just put them under the husbands last name. But if you want to be fair choose the persons name who comes first in the alphabet.

We're debating doing it alphabetically since people can find their names quicker. Although, that leaves the question as to whose name we should put it under for the couples that don't share a last name...

I've actually never been to a wedding that has had it alphabetically. I think if you have the seating chart outside the hall so people can look where they are before going in, it would save some of the line-up that could happen if everyone is looking at the seating chart as they arrive.

To the second part of your question, on displaying the seating chart, yes, you could definitely do a canvas print, but are you crafty at all? What I'm doing is finding big thrift store frames (you can find huge ones for under $10), with older looking frames. Then I'm going to spray paint them a metallic silver (silver is in my wedding colours, but you could do rose gold or gold depending on your decor). Then I'm either printing vinyl letters or simply printing a sheet to go in the frame. You can also get a paint pen and either yourself, or a talented friend can write out the chart.

You could get 2 medium size frames, dividing the alphabet at the halfway point with your guests.

I've included a photo, the text isn't want I'm talking about, but it gives you an idea of how elegant in can look, and I know it's less expensive than paying for a big wrapped canvas.

I think I'm having poster board printed and out it on an easel

Did you do it on a canvas or poster in picture frame on the easel? I'm debating poster mounted to foam board, but not sure if it would look nice.

I like the idea of the table diagram, maybe I should incorporate that in our seating chart. Perhaps at the bottome or off to the side.

We are doing escort cards that will tell people the table they are sitting at and then they will take the escort card and put it at their seat at the table because we aren't assigning seats, just tables. the escort cards will all be lined up in alphabetical order. We are doing a canvas print sign to show where the tables and their numbers.

For a larger wedding I would totally recommend doing it alphabetically by last name to save the guests time going through all those names and everything.

I agree with the other ladies in that if it's larger - alphabetically. For smaller weddings (12 tables or less) I think by table is fine.

Then again, even if it's in alphabetical order I'm that person that will look through the names for people at the same table so I can see who I'm sitting with and it doesn't really save time to me.

For a large wedding, I would do alphabetical so its easier to find your name.

Alphabetically order makes it much easier and faster for guests to find their name and table number!

We decided to order our seating chart for 175 guests by table because as guests we selfishly love seeing who else is sitting at our table! 😊

We are doing it alphabetically by last name. We have about 225 guests. And we are just displaying on an easel.
I think it's better with a group that large that people find their own name and seat themselves.

I agree with this 100% you don’t want everyone standing around looking for their names.

The last wedding we went to did it alphabetically by last name! It looks clean that way and is much easier to find because your just looking for your last name in order of where it falls on the alphabet. I would find it would take longer going through each table to see if your name is there. Just my opinion though

Typically a seating chart is by table number and you'll assign it to atleast 10 people. I haven't seen alphabetically arrange but that's a great idea. It'll be an easy thing to find your table than table number especially you have 25 tables.

As for displaying it, you can Definetly do that. I think it'll be best since it may be a big canvas. You can also put the canvas on a easel.
