Seating Chart

Meghan, on April 19, 2022 at 10:08 Posted in Wedding reception 0 26

Is anyone not doing a seating chart? We are doing a buffet style dinner but do have assigned seating (obviously getting seating cards) but wondering if its necessary to have a seating chart as well, or looking to hear other peoples opinions if they didn't/won't have a seating chart. TIA

We are doing buffet and will have our tables numbered! I am going to have a board at the top of the stairs and people just have to find their number. I figured this was easier and that way people can at least be seated with people they know and are comfortable with for a few hours Smiley smile

Doing buffet style here! And our Seating Chart is more of who will be at what table together, like keeping couples and closer-knit friends together. Not too worried about who will sit where at the table, because I know that'll be extra stress and the guests are all capable to sorting that out themselves without issue Smiley heart

We won't have a seating chart, but we will have table numbers and will assign certain people to a certain table (we want to keep friends together and family together). We are having a "family style" dinner, so different trays of food will be placed at the table and everyone serves themselves.

Buffet style for us - We are doing table numbers. Less work for us and works out great. I have been to a few weddings like this. You arrive at the reception, look on the chart to see what table number you're at. So why spend the extra cost, time and stress on who sits where Smiley shame

If you have assigned seating are are having seating cards, you should probably have a seating chart. Otherwise, all your guests are going to be wandering around looking at every table trying to find their name. It will be much easier with a seating chart so they know exactly where they're going

I just went to my friends wedding and for her sit down meal she had table numbers and then you just took your name frame with you so the caters knew what meal to put down in front of you which was a lovely idea! For us we plan on doing buffet or food truck and just having table numbers and let people sit where they want at the table but it will like be no more than 8 people per table Seating Chart 1

We are having a buffet and assigned seats with place cards. I want to ensure each guest has either their spouse/date beside them and singles mixed in to be beside people they know. We are hoping the venue can do 2 long tables that seats 22 at each one. I'm still deciding if I need to do a table 1 or 2 ... still a work in progress...

It's almost like a buffet except you don't have to leave your seat. The servers will bring you plates or bowls of food and you put what you want on your own plate. You'll pass the food around family style liek you would at home. If you want more chicken you have more chicken, you want more beef they got you lol.

Sometimes. Some caterers have a strict seating plan when everyone has to pick a menu. Our dinner is family style so we don't need to worry about it.

Yes exactly what we’ll be doing! You can also indicate their menu on the card too for when the servers will pass if you have a seat down dinner.

How many guests/tables do you have?
I'm doing cards at seats with their names but we only have 25 guests so shouldn't take people long to find theirs.

    Seating Chart 2
You can put them at the entrance in order of tables or in alphabetical order whichever you think is easiest. Then they can just bring the card to the table with them

I have seating cards not a seating chart. If I did have a seating chart I would not bother with the cards.

I think it's up to you 100% we're doing a "find your seat" to just find what table you are at! We also have personalized Mason jar cups which is the guests name card/part of the favours.

My seat/table chart is simple n small this is what it looks like so far Seating Chart 3

If they're getting cards with their table numbers, then no need for a large seating charge. It's just duplicate information.

I personally don’t like the look of a seating chart, we are having seating cards and our wedding planner will help our guests find their seating card

I think this one is totally personal preference. I think as long as your guests have an idea where they are to go, whether it be place settings at the table, escort cards or a seating chart. I have seen those that have done both (seating chart and place holders) and I think if you did both, it would be for esthetics only.

I am also doing a buffet and still trying to decide which I prefer. But seeing as I am a big DIY/crafter, I can see myself doing both a chart and some sort of seat holder lol

We will have a seating chart of sorts so that guests know where to sit. Were still deciding how to present food (buffet or plated), but if we do buffet it will just be a table number to sit at. If we do plated we will need a detailed seating chart so our catering staff know who would be getting what meal. I think if you're just going to set up seating cards, just have the table number written on the card. That way you don't have to worry about any couples that need to split up, having half empty tables, or the people you want up front to be stuck in the back because others have taken the closer seats
