Scottish Wedding

Stephanie, on October 9, 2017 at 00:43 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 5

Does anyone have any tips or advice for planning a Scottish wedding? My fiance's father was of Scottish descent, as was my grandfather. Neither one of them is here to see us walk down the aisle, but I would like to honour their memories by having a Scottish wedding. There are so many traditions though and I'm wondering which ones should absolutely be observed and which ones I can omit without it being offensive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Stephanie! Have you made any decisions on how to incorporate this into your wedding? You could wrap your bouquet in your family's tartan, incorporate thistle into your bouquet, carry a sixpence in your shoe, and of course bagpipes!

Nothing says "Scottish" more than bagpipes, tartan, kilts, and MacIntosh toffee. Can you find ways to incorporate these things? Also, the Celtic knot is a symbol of love and could be used for your wedding bands.

Is there a Scottish society near you that you could contact to get information from? They would be able to answer your questions.

I am of Scottish descent as well and I am having a bagpiper as I walk down the aisle, bringing in the Scottish Thistle into my wedding bouquet and boutenniers for the men. Also, I am incorporating my family's colors; in one photo I am putting my family's tartan's shawl over my shoulders
