Save The Dates

Miranda, on January 3, 2021 at 16:31 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9

Hello everyone! I have a question I was hoping to get some insight on. My wedding is August 29, 2021. As I've been planning I just assumed I was going to send out Save The Dates, but since talking to some people, they have said I shouldn't send out Save The Dates as it's kind of a waste of money. I was curious to hear other peoples opinions on Save The Dates, are they necessary?

Save the Date is great if you have family outside of the country allowing to make plans for your day. Get creative to make one yourself if your a techy person digitally and send it through social media. This process allows them to make plans accordingly and have the money saved up.

We personally didn't do this step as some of the family getting married since the invitation was the main concept for the information provided and accommodations. Only 1 cousin did the Save the Date postcard style.

    Hi there!!
We sent out save the dates for a few reasons. We are getting married the Friday of a long weekend, and it is about an hour out of town. We wanted to give enough notice since people tend to make plans for long weekends (especially in September when its the last long weekend of Summer), also so people could book time off work and look at booking accommodations. Save the dates definitely aren't necessary, but for me I felt a sigh of relief knowing I had sent my guests a bit of info so they were in the know.

If you're looking to save money I would skip them or look for a low cost alternative. Getting them printed and mailed will cost at least $1 each ($.89 just for postage) which adds up quickly. Unless you have guests who need to book flights or hotels I don't think you need to have them.

We hand delivered a few in February and ended up needing to reach out to all those guests to let them know our plans had changed. If I could do it again I would skip save the dates. It added a lot of unneeded stress to my life.

If you don't have anyone who needs to make travel and accommodation arrangements, I don't think you need Save the Dates.

We sent save the dates out because our wedding was originally scheduled for last July - so we wanted to give people the heads up to plan their vacations around it if they wanted to come.

Then when COVID hit, we had to send out a postponement which I guess served as our new date save the date.
I think it depends on your guest list and wedding date. Are your guests all local? If so, you may not need save the dates. Your date is the end of august, if you know some of your guests book trips or have cottages etc., it might be a good idea to give them a heads up on the date. But totally up to you!

I'm not a fan simply because I think it's unnecessary and yet another thing the wedding industry says we need to spend money on. 15-20 years save the dates weren't really a thing. The most important people in your life will know the date of your wedding well in advance and can plan accordingly. You can send invites a few months ahead of time to give everyone else time to plan.

But if you want to send them because it's something you like then go ahead. You can also send an electronic save the date if you're just worried about the cost.

We are not doing save the dates , as to us it’s not a necessity (to us) due to us having family over Canada , we are just sending out invites a little in advanced (6 months) so people can plan around their travel expenses etc!
I do like the save the date idea , but for us it just wasn’t necessary

My fiance and I have done the save the dates. It's a good way for people to plan ahead and to look forward and remember that they have a upcoming wedding to attend! Also it's a good way for people that are travel for your wedding and out of towners to arrange accommodations in advance if places fill up fast in certain cities.

It's totally up to you if you want to send them out. My fiance and I spend $10 for 75 people for the save the dates through Michaels. All of our friends and family loved them and were excited for the upcoming year. Since we're getting married in a different province then where we live, our entire wedding list will be traveling for our wedding.

We did resend out new save the dates when we had to postpone until August 7 2021 back in May just to let everyone know what the plans were and such. All of our guests were glad that we had kept them up to date with everything.
