Save The Dates

Sondra, on July 16, 2019 at 20:51 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 27

Hello,

I'm seriously wondering when I should be sending out my save the dates. 3/4 of the guests invited to our wedding will be flying in from abroad. The Majority will come from England and Australia, but many will be coming from various parts of Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, etc) a few will be travelling from Africa and a handful from the US and New Zealand.

I'm not getting married until August 7, 2021, but I feel I should send out save the dates sooner than later so guests who need to get on 6 to 26-hour flights can have ample time to save and figure out time off and such.

Any advice is welcome!

I would def send save the dates out as early as possible. some of them may need visas to come to canada or they need an ample amount of time to save! the sooner the better!

I'd probably send them out this upcoming January if I were you. That way there's no excuses from anyone that they didn't have enough notice!

I have about 80 guests flying in to Toronto from all over the world, my wedding is next July, so at the beginning of the month I sent out digital e-save the dates! I edited them myself and everything! This was soo much easier for me compared to getting everyone’s info and mailing them out. But either way, I think the one year mark gives them ample time to prepare!

I think a year out will be good, you can send an online version sooner as a "heads up" and then send physical ones next summer.

If you're worried about people saving up, you can always contact those people and give them the date.

I'm honestly worrying about this as well as most of my bridal party and 1/4 of guests will be coming from Asia to Canada! I have heard that sending too early is not good as well as the guests might lose the Save the Dates or forget? Anyway my wedding is on Sept 2020 ad I'm planning to send all Save the Dates on Dec 2019

Yeah, I think I'm just stressing because some of our best friends are backpacking and living in countries with little to no income. Thanks for the reply!

I think 1 year is the general consensus, I'm just mainly worried about friends who are working in countries that are only earning $550 CAD per month (Thailand).

I'm sorry to hear they couldn't make the trip! Thanks for the input, I think you're right that transparency is key.

I would say a year out from your date would be good enough. If they are close family and friends, you can let them know as soon as you have a date set, so they have some time. But usually its a year out!

A year mark into your day should be fine to let them make plans that time. This allows all overseas guests to make their arrangements and book off time early. Put invitation to follow.

You have plenty of time, but consider sending them out once you have a venue booked so that they can get prepared like you said Smiley smile

I personally would have them sent by a year in advance!

We didn't send save the dates but were very open with when we were getting married for all of the family to be aware of (especially because my FH's cousin got engaged 6 months after us and is getting married 2.5 months before us).

I will say that even though we let my FH's family know about the wedding as soon as we booked the venue (19 months mark) they were still unable to make the trip.

I sent out my save the dates 1 year in advance and my invitations 6 months in advance! It has worked out well and all of my guests have RSVPd with 3 months to spare 👍🏻

I’m always happy to be bombarded with questions!! i do have an couple guests flying in, with the furthest one flying from australia! the rest are flying within Canada! So far i haven’t had any complaints! I will say though that anyone who will be flying (more or less) was informed of the date earlier than the Save The Date’s were sent out! I was adamant about sending physical save the dates (i think they’re fun and i love the sentiment) but you could consider maybe sending an online Save The Date to those guests who would have to travel, and then sending a physical save the date next year?
