Save the date Cards 2023 - when to send?

Rebecca, on November 17, 2021 at 14:06 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13

Hello beauties!!!

so we have finally picked our venue just working out a couple logistics around securing it but that's basically done!!Smiley smile

now I'm looking at save the date cards & wondering the best time to send them out here's my dilemma.

a lot of people will need to travel from Western Canada to Eastern meaning flights can be expensive as heck!

To accommodate these people and give them the best heads up possible & savings time when do you suggest sending out save the dates? 18 months before? or am I out to lunch?

everyone else who is already in close proximity will be going out roughly about 14 months before the wedding date. Unless someone gives me a better suggestion I'm open to whatever Smiley smile

I am also getting married in October 2023 and will be sending a first round of save the dates to my "Need to Invite" list in the next month or so! With so many 2020 weddings being postponed to 2022 and 2023, I want to make sure the guests that I absolutely want/need to have or those from out of town as much time as possible! Once we figure out our exact guest list a year or so before, I will send a save the date to the rest of the list and maybe resend an email copy or reminder to the first group.

I know that some people will confuse the save the date as the wedding invitation if you send it out too early. You may have people not noticing the year. For us we told people to save the date because we only invited people we talk with regularly. Had we sent out save the dates it wouldn't have been more than a year before.

I have told my out of town guests (Europe) when the date is a year in advance, but I will send my save the dates 8 months out.

We have some guests who might be flying from Newfoundland to Ontario. I'm hoping to send out my save-the-dates a year in advance to give them time to save/book flights and hotel.

After experiencing sending save the dates out prior to Covid, and then having to cut my wedding by a lot of people, I would highly recommend NOT sending save the dates. Or just sending them to those guests who are living out of province. I found having sent save the dates made it extremely awkward when we had to cut guests.

Hey Rebecca. My Fiancée and I sent out our save the dates about 8 months before our wedding. However, we do not have guests traveling that far. By what you mentioned above, I do think that 14 months would be loads of time for your guests to get their accommodations in order!

I would say a year in advance is plenty of time to send out the save the dates. If you have out of town guests, they have the time to book flights and accommodations in advance. My fiance and I did that with our save the dates back in 2019 for our 2020 wedding. We've since had to postpone twice and aren't doing another save the date. Just the invites but when we did postpone we let everyone know that was sent a save the date for the wedding, what was going on

I think 12 months for people out of province is perfect timing. This is when I will be sending our save the dates.

I am having the wedding in Alberta but we will be having family members come from Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick.

14 months is more than enough time. No need to send them out this early.

Our guests are going from Alberta to Newfoundland mostly, typically flights for 2 people are about 1500 and that's not even taking accommodations in to account a hotel average of the area is 150 a night, for 4-5 days will be easy another 1500 by the time meals are included.

I'm just trying to think of everything possible.

We have a lot of guests coming from Ontario to Alberta and we sent save the dates about 14 months before the wedding. I dont think they need to go out any earlier. That is plenty of time to shop around for flights
