Sample Sales

Ashley, on November 21, 2019 at 10:51 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 10

Hey everyone! im going to a sample sale next weekend and i havent been to one before. If i find a dress i like i assume i get it right away? Like i purchase it and take it home same day like i would buy anything else? Is that how it works? I assume i have to get it cleaned and sized as well? Should i be trying to stay within my dress size? or should i pick any size and get it altered? Has anyone ever bought from a sample sale? Please let me know.

Don't let the number on the tag trip you up. When I couldn't fit my booty into a 12 I was sad for a hot minute and then I moved on! Dress sizes are weird.

My mom and I checked out a sample sale a few months ago. My advice would be wear nude under things, be prepared for a stranger to see your under things, don't wear make-up (they might make you remove it anyway), bring a hair tie of you think you'll wear it up, and bring a friend or two who can hold the "maybes" as they usually only let you take a few dresses in at a time to try on.

The company hosting the one we went to had a website that answered most of my questions, yours might have a site too.
People who found a dress took it home that day as is. If youre ok with alterations, don't go up more than 2 sizes or it might need more work than it's worth. And the sizes can be all over the place. I'm a 4 in jeans, I bought an 8 but I had loose 10s and tight 12s that I tried from different designers.
I bought a sample from a store and I will have it cleaned once the alterations are done. It doesn't look dirty, but the peace of mind is worth it to me!
Sometimes they can be flexible on price if it needs a bit more work, it never hurts to ask!

I bought mine from a sample sale and they had them reduced to move. You definitely have to snatch it if you find the one, or someone else could get it. The nice thing is you take it that day and you can take it to a seamstress you trust rather than wait for it in store.

Yes, I believe when you buy from a sample sale you take the dress with you that day. The closer you can get to your actual size the better. In terms of alterations, it's easier and there's more a seamstress can do when altering a dress that is too big for you versus one that is too small. So if you have the option of getting a dress that's one size too small or one that's one size too big go with the one that's too big.

Seeing as how you are so close to the wedding (in terms of buying a dress) - I would for sure buy as soon as you find one that you can picture walking down the aisle in and gives you those feels.

Don't know about the take home situation with sample sales as I ordered mine, but as for sizes - alterations are possible, but don't be relying on them for miracles!!

Like for sure don't get one that is too small because unless you lose weight there is only so much that the fabric can be let out.

At the same time, don't buy one that is way too big either as at a certain point it would be bad for the structure of the dress and wouldn't make sense as you would pay more in alteration then you would buying the dress.
