Same Day Coordinator?

Tolu, on March 8, 2020 at 15:19 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13

Hey Ladies, Happy International Women's Day!

I just wanted to get your thoughts on the same day coordinator. Is it worth it?

We are!! whose gonna set up all your DYI decor? what happens when its speech time and your dad is running outside for a smoke and no one can find him for his speech? are you going to run after him? what happens if the best man leaves the rings in the limo (true story)? you gonna call the limo company and get them to come back? i feel like no matter how much you plan everything to a T something always happens and i just want to enjoy my day and be stress free.

Hmmm good points. I have 150 guests and although the ceremony and reception are in the same place there are a lot of moving parts. In general, I just don't really want to have those things on my mind the day of the wedding. I'll check out the website that has been suggested and kind of go from there Smiley smile

I really want my family to just enjoy the wedding. I'll probably go with month of coordinator. I just wanted to make sure I was spending unnecessary money but in my case, I think I need it.

    Thank you Smiley smile

    Hi Hank!

Thank you so much for this. I'll be checking out that website later on tonight. I totally agree with you, I really want to be stress free and I did not want any of my families working my wedding. I just want them to enjoy themselves. I'm the type of bride that will freak out about certain things so I definitely think a wedding coordinator will be ideal. I agree with you about month of as well, this will also give me the opportunity to get the person acquainted with all the vendors etc.

Thanks so much for your feedback, it helped a lot!

Their services are useful though the price seems high for having them the day of the event. A family member can help to ensure your vision and outlook is exactly the way you want it. Its a tough call to make if you feel you really want someone to be there taking care of the vendors and envelopes unknowing the timing and areas of the hall to have the set up done.

Depends on a couple things imo.

Hire one if: over 100 guests, two separate locations for ceremony and reception, don't have wedding party/ family that can help

Don't hire one if: 100 guests or less, same location for entire wedding, you have a wedding party/ family to help

Also price - when I had origanlly hired a day-of/month-of coordinator her fees were to be $1,000 all in. I can't see it being worth it for anything more than that.

I was the one who recommended the WPIC website to Laura. Definitely take a look because they're all certified planners but not everyone is charging "celebrity" prices.

Personally, I think a month of coordinator is crucial if your wedding is semi-formal or up. A casual backyard bbq where everyone is more relaxed can likely go without one but if you're giving your guests a more formal experience that requires certain things in place at certain times, I would highly suggest it.

With a wedding coordinator, you won't be stressed out about whether things are coming together and you'll have someone to keep you on schedule. It frees up your family and loved ones from having to "work" your event to just enjoying your day. And if you have any potentially demanding family members, you'll have someone emotionally removed from them to be "the bad guy."

$1500 is average for a month of coordinator. Most "name" coordinators in Toronto were quoting me $****.

Make sure you get a month of, and not just day of. If they're only committing to you for the day, you may as well not get one. You want someone to familiarize themselves with your itinerary, your party, and your vendors and it takes more than just a few glances at a clipboard the day of to do it.

Okay, thank you. I have someone in mind so I may just reach out.

Exactly! Just the thought of not having one is kinda making me freak out a bit. I'm just like how will all these moving parts come together, who will keep things in order etc. So I'm gonna look into it some more.

From what I've seen so far, day-of/month-of coordination ranges between $1300 and $1700. Another member recommended going to the WPIC website to find a coordinator as some of the lesser known coordinators may not charge as much, so I would recommend checking out the coordinators in your area on that site to see what they're charging. I agree, I think its worth it for peace of mind... I obsess over the details and I can see myself being a ball of stress not having someone to take care of the details!

    Hey Laura,

Yeah I totally agree with you. There is so many moving parts for my wedding. We have 150 guests and everything is taking place all at the same venue. I think I just want someone to keep order. I actually haven't asked my venue if we would have access the day before, that is a really good question. Mine was also saying $1500, is that the standard price?

I might just do it for peace of mind.

I am also on the fence. I think it would depend on what the set up of your wedding is like. For example, if you have access to your venue the day before to ensure everything is set up, you could perhaps just assign a friend/family member to be the point person to ensure things are moving smoothly. If you have a large guest count, or multiple venues, or, like me, access to the venue starts only an hour before the ceremony (eek!), a day of coordinator may just put your mind at ease for $1500. Its really about what's important to you and if you think you'll stress about it. I definitely see it being worthwhile for me.
