Rude florists

Avery, on September 10, 2020 at 12:35 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 17

Is it just me or do florists seem to be a bit pretentious ?

My wedding is in about a year, but because of covid, all this years weddings are being pushed back to my year, so vendors are booking up. Usually, I wouldn't start looking for florists this early, but its a crazy time. So anyways, I've contacted a few florists in my area and sent them all the info, (date, time, venue, approx budget, inspo pics, theme colors), and have a terrible experience.

1. They never reply back to me

2. When they do reply, its rude. They either say 'Well it's too early for planning your flowers, and since you don't have every single detail of your wedding finalized yet (like centerpieces, exact bridemaids dresses) , come back to us when you do". OR "your ideas and inspo pics make no sense and don't match at all. You clearly don't know what you are looking for, so we suggest figuring out what you even want before contacting us again".

I personally, think my ideas and inspo pictures aren't all that crazy or different, but they are just inspo pics. All the florists I've talked to, I have been polite and told them that I trust their expertise. If they have a better idea, then I'm open to it, because that is their job. I don't know, I'm just really frustrated. All the other vendors I've talked to have helped/explained to me the process and answered all my stupid first-time-bride questions. I'm starting to think of alternate options, even though I would really like flowers.

Oh absolutely! I've had a hard time finding my *cake* too. I've contacted several donut places around town and it seems impossible to get them to reply to my messages.

My florist is the only part of my vow renewal I haven't had a problem with, it's DJ's and venues that are giving me the runaround for October 2021. No one is replying to emails or returning phone calls.

Oh, That sucks. I had a few ghost me too, but never could really figure out why.
I finally found a great florist, who actually went to the same College as me! So funny. Anyways, hopefully everything is all good now.

Ugg, yes! Like why are you giving me sass when I want to give you money? Isn't it better I do it early? Then all my info is organized and booked well in advance. My wedding is next August, and I know next year is going to be so busy with everyones weddings being pushed back.

Luckily we didn’t deal with rude florists per se, we mostly dealt with florists that were either uncomfortable about our wedding being a same sex one or just straight up ghosting us. It all worked out though cause our florist is awesome. Good luck! You’ll find the right one soon.

I have a florist that I’m working with that’s awesome! I can send you her info if you like? She is not rude at all and will work with you to plan ahead.

Girl, YES! i am in the same boat... my wedding is October 15,2021... i have been trying to lock down all my vendors because EVERYTHING is getting booked fast for all the weddings getting pushed back to next year. For all my vendors i contacted i literally started the email/call by saying I know its still early but 2021 is going to be a busy year for weddings and i would love if we could discuss your services... and sooo many times now ive gotten a sarcastic remark back, or an eyeroll in person... i will never understand it. If someone is willing to hire you and put a deposit down, why does it matter how early theyre doing it!

Hope it all works out for you!! Smiley smile

I seem to have one the same when I was trying to book one and thankfully it didn't fall through. I had spoken to a florist in person and gotten ideas of what would work and price ranges given that I couldn't put a deposit down because of sufficient funds in the account. A week later I went back and saw about making changes. When asked about the date, she said it was booked and can't do nothing about it. You know what you want and inspiration wise. Don't give up trying.

That is pretty bad though it could have been handled better to get it myself 2 days before without the attitude given back. It seems the inferior they are towards clients, they have that much more to not do for us. Its a sad case in whole.

The alternative route I discovered was going artificial too after this whole issue and paid less for rental floral balls, vases and money box from one vendor who was amazing in her service and attitude dealing with customers. I would recommend her any time and go to her for décor and flowers to rent. I wish you all the best and hope that someone comes through for you.

My Mother-In-Law is a florist. So thankfully I do not have to deal with this 100%. I am not relying on her for everything so I am asking florists for some things. I think as a business the customer is ALWAYS (mostly) right. You need to go with their vision. Regardless if the florist agrees with what you have they shouldn't straight up tell you its not good, they can suggest other options to go with it instead of turning you away. As for it being too soon? I HATE THAT RESPONSE. It is COVID sooo many people are rebooking we need to get on top of this. I completely get this.

I found florists were the worst with respect to getting back to me and replying to my emails. Thankfully I didn't run into any rude ones - we booked our florist over a year out and they were great. I am not from your area so I can't offer a suggestion, but hang in there. You will find your florist and you will know when you do!

Ya I have some that won't reply after weeks either. Don't worry, I'm not choosing someone rude just because they are cheaper. With a lot of my vendors I choose people I want to trust with my day, rather than just the cost.

I have one florist who still hasn't gotten back to me after completing their online booking and speaking with their reception weeeeeeks ago. But another one I spoke with was like the sweetest aunt-like woman, I wanted to have a coffee date with her. So it can be hit or miss.

My advice: if you don't vibe with them early on don't book them. If they continue this attitude you'll only have more stress and anxiety. Find someone you enjoy dealing with, even if it means a little more cost or a vendor from a little farther away.

Oiy, sorry to hear you're getting such attitude. Aside from a few pushy sales reps, we've had pleasant experiences dealing with florists when acquiring quotes.

Of course! I hope she can help you out!

We're doing artificial flowers only because we're getting married in Kelowna BC and not in Edmonton so we're having to bring them with us.

I'm sorry that you're dealing with this.

Check out Flower Affairs on the south side of Edmonton (10431 51 Ave). The owner is amazing!! My fiance and I had bought our artificial flowers from her shop last summer July 2019 for our August 8th 2020 wedding (we've postponed until August 7th 2021). She is absolutely amazing at her work and amazing to work with. She does real and artificial flowers. Our flowers have been stored in a box since and whenever we get a chance, we can just bring them back to her and she'll put them all together for us
