Rsvp on website?

Slma, on May 25, 2020 at 20:01 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 8
Our wedding is in February 2021. We’re hoping for the best so we’ve decided to send out our save the dates within the next month or so. The save the dates are pretty clear that things aren’t set in stone but that we are optimistic and hoping for the best. Our plan is to make the final decision to either go ahead with the wedding or postpone 4 months before the wedding in October. If we decide to go ahead we will send out invitations then. Our save the dates will direct our guests to our website. My question is if I should have the rsvp section on our website public before we decide if we’re actually having the wedding. Or keep it private until the actual invitations go out?

We did our rsvp page right away when we sent our save the dates (about a year and a half out) so people who know they are coming 100% have already rsvp'd . its good for us to keep track of numbers and gather emails/cell/addresses for any changes.

Hold back on the RSVP section if your plan doesn't go as planned for the Go Ahead of the date. It will be confusing as to what to expect if they can't reply or where to go unless directed. The invitation can have the website once decided on all the details and the RSVP page set up then.

Save the Date cards can be sent out if you want your guests to keep clear of travel for that time frame.

I would wait until the invites have gone out to make the RSVP page live.

That way people can't RSVP before you know more about your plans, and heaven forbid you need to reduce the size of the guest list you won't have people RSVPd who now need to be uninvited.

I would echo everyone else - hold off on publishing the RSVP page to avoid confusion.

I would also say to not have the RSVP section ready yet. From their POV they will wonder if they are supposed to RSVP already or not and then you'll probably get some but not all, and then if you decided to go forward with the date and they can no longer attend then they can't take back the RSVP.

I personally would hold off. Considering the Canada/US border is closed and Alberta is shut down from large gatherings for the rest of summer, you might as well wait until October when you're finalized with whether or not you're going ahead.

Have you done your tasting yet? If not, that's another good reason to hold off so you can figure out your menu and the RSVPs can include which meal they would want, which can help you consolidate all the guests info without too much back and forth.

Hi hank. We’re all traveling for the wedding. Although we’re not leaving our province we are all traveling. And my fiancé’s family is almost exclusively American. I guess my question is should I accept rsvps? I could. That section of my website is ready to go. Just not sure if I want to. Before covid I would have had it up and running before the invitations. I’m just not so sure I want it to be up and running now that there’s a chance we could cancel.

If you're not accepting RSVPs yet, you shouldn't have a section for it on the website until the invitations go out.

One thing you should consider with Save the Dates - not sure how many people are travelling far for your wedding but the main point of them is to give guests who need to make such arrangements a heads up so they can make such bookings. If you don't have a large group who need to make major arrangements for travel and accommodation, maybe hold off on sending Save the Dates to avoid backtracking?
