If you don't have a ring bearer, the 4 guys could be ring security and escort the rings in a "top secret" briefcase - if that fits the style of your wedding - could be funny or awkward. Your FH can also invite the 4 to get ready/hang out with him before and to take photos with them as well as groomsmen.

The 4 extra men roles can be 2 to hold the doors for reception as the family and/or wedding party enters and 2 other give a short speech.

Can they do a reading at your cermoney or say a poem or do a speech? can do they set up or hand out pamphlets as guests enter?

We're not having a wedding party at all, so we've got 2 friends emceeing for the night, 1 will hold the big jar during our sand ceremony, 2 will be witnesses, 1 will walk my grandma down the aisle, 1 will walk my dog down the aisle (he's the ring bearer), and 2 will be in charge of getting people involved in the yard games or making sure people know where to get refreshments before the ceremony.

We're not having any readings during the ceremony, but that's another possible task.
