Reception Venue Hunt

Monique, on June 22, 2019 at 16:58 Posted in Plan a wedding 1 23
So this is the jist of the situation: we are having a difficult time trying to find a reception venue (everything is either overpriced, not that nice looking or not private) and my FILs are skeptical about our ceremony space being outside ("what if it rains?"). It's becoming difficult to stay motivated to find a venue and honestly, I just want to elope. We looked at a hall that was reasonably priced but it smelled weird and guests would have to pay full bar prices. We looked at a hotel hall but it was more than we felt comfortable spending and it wasn't as nice, due to it being quite outdated and my fiance didn't like the ceremony space. And we looked at a restaurant that had a semiprivate space but the restaurant noise was very noticeable in the semiprivate space. Is the venue supposed to be like "ahhh this is the one!"? I don't know what to do

I had the same dilemma, I really wanted to get married at this hotel and there is chapel like in the hotel and it would have been perfect, but sadly after all was said and done it was out of our budget. So we picked a hall and will have the ceremony there with the reception right after. It's not my dream but I just keep on remembering that you can get married anywhere and it's not the place that matters but that you are happy and marrying someone who you love and who loves you for you.

Liquor doesn’t typically have an expiration date, so if you have room to store it, you could start buying and putting it aside as early as you want!

That's a good idea! How early in advance can you buy liquor?

That's true. I think the problem we're hitting with having a backup ceremony spot is none of the reception spots are really that nice to have the ceremony. I mean, we could have the ceremony in a hall but it's definitely not ideal..

That's a good idea. My fiance and I actually made that list last night. We want it to be around $600 to rent, bring in our own caterer, and it to either look nice already or not have something we can't cover with decor. Honestly, on Friday we saw 2 venues that weren't what we were expecting so we were feeling discouraged but I found a ton of halls on Sunday and have just been calling them today

The good thing is that you have lots of time to sort it out. Sadly you do need to have a back up plan for outdoor ceremonies. There are many options for all types of budgets. Try community halls, legions. You can make any space look like how you want it and remember you have lots of time to DIY. The venue at first may not be your first choice but you can make it a space you'll love.

Definitely make a list of what your priorities are for your venue too. Whether it's price, look, location, own liquor etc.. and what you are willing to flex a little on. Honestly with some nice decorations you can really spruce some places up if they are a blank slate. Or do ceiling draping to hide ventilation and etc...

For the ceremony, you 100% need a backup plan! Our wedding day we had a downpour and huge storm, luckily the wedding was indoors. I know it's annoying and seems negative but "what if it rains" is a huge concern! As for your reception space, for a more affordable venue you'd be looking at a basic reception/banquet hall. It's private, can be inexpensive but it's not unique however you can make it unique!! Since you're having a small guestlist maybe look into a community centre hall. You can decorate them to fit exactly what you are looking for and like I mentioned they tend to be less expensive.

Definitely just keep looking. Check community halls/community centers, you would be surprised how nice some of them actually are. There may be some options you are not seeing on google and etc.

If you have a local facebook wedding buy and sell group... try posting there for recommendations. People are pretty helpful with what they liked or didn't like and what is nearby in your price range.

Where in Costco? Is it in the grocery store area or a different store?

Hunting for this part of the portion is where the cost of food and alcohol counts in for all the guest count.

Banquet halls may be helpful to look into for full set up available of tables, chairs, linens and centerpieces if in house done. That WOW factor will jump at you when you love the place for its view. Open bar will cost more than cash bar as the same for Plated service vs. Buffet style. Inquire all the information needed to make your decision upon your budget.

    CeilingReception Venue Hunt 1

We’re having 40-60 guests! Banquet halls?

One of the not as nice venues we’ve looked at had ventilation pipes on the ceiling like this one:

How many guests are you having? Have you looked at any banquet halls?

could you decorate any of the other venues to look a bit more pretty?!
