Reception Chairs

Genis, on July 23, 2018 at 22:16 Posted in Wedding reception 0 21

Hi all!!

We are struggling with the idea of renting chairs for the reception. Lots of people say it's something no one notices but my FH and I don't love the chairs at the hotel & I really don't like fabric chair covers but we just aren't sure whether to spend that amount of money on chairs!!

Looking for some opinions on whether you hired chairs/hiring chairs or think its a waste of money!

I agree I also don't like the look of chair covers so we're renting chiavari chairs, maybe your guests won't notice that you went out and spent an extra $1000 on chairs but I believe that they will notice that the overall look is more elegant

I am not loving our venue's chairs either, though renting over 100 chairs makes me feel a little ill, as does paying someone to put chair covers on over 100 chairs... I'm leaning towards making sashes with organza or tulle, and picking an unsuspecting family member to torture! Hopefully they're cooperative hahah

    Thanks all!!

I think we have decided not to waste the money. We were looking at over $1000 for the chairs, I would rather put that towards a photo booth, presents or even a bar tab!!

Hahaha ok! I think we decided not to waste the money! I would rather spend that money on presents for my groom!

I think they are fairly new, hence the cleanliness.. thank goodness!!

Our venue is providing very simple white chairs, we were originally going to rent other prettier chairs or chair covers, but have since decided that we are going to leave them just as they are, because those are some of the small details that most people do not even notice because the majority of the time they are sitting on those chairs not looking at them

Girllll those chairs are not bad at all. They just make the room look a little dark. I would get some white/ivory cloth and tie around the chair vertically if you want to brighten it up by don’t waste your money. It will cost you like 3-4 dollars a chair. It adds up. Plus they look really clean so I think it will be fine. All the best.

I see the chairs in every photo I look at - but maybe thats just because thats what I am focusing on at the moment.

Unfortunately our list is at 170 so it'll be above $1000 on chairs :/

Our venue is so stunning and I am scared that the chairs will ruin it!! arghhhhh haha

    Hi Natasha!

Here's our chairs without the covers on. I think after this we are deciding the chairs are not worth it - our guest list is at 170 and thats just too much money for chairs!

FH hates fabric covers...but i am not sure i like the chairs without anything on them!!

I personally would just use the venue's chair and do chair covers. around here. the price of a rented chair is 10-15 a chair. and the chair cover is 2-3 (depending on the decorator). chair cover it is!!! I wasn't spending that kind of money on chairs. for chair covers. we are doing the stretch/spandex ones that have ruching on the back.

We had to rent everything as we got married on private property. As we wanted a chair with more cushion for dinner we needed to also get chair covers because the chairs were gold with burgundy cushions which did not match our colour scheme.

Look through pictures at your venue (or Pinterest) and see what others have done. Personally it was worth it for us, luckily we only required about 80 chairs because it's a cocktail event. The only way I was able to convince my FH was by showing him a hall filled with chair covers or a hall filled with wooden chairs with white seats. It was an easy choice between the 2 and the cost was only a $2/chair difference. I know people say that no one notices that sort of thing, but becauae I'm a florist and decorator I notice those details when I walk into a room.

I don't personally think I have ever looked at the chairs used at a wedding. I am not a fan of the chairs offered at our venue as they have red cushions but I think we will just be adding a bow to the back to make them look better.

I don't like chair covers either, and like Brittany, I feel that they look incomplete without a sash or another kind of decoration. So the price adds up quickly.

From the start, my fiancé thought that the covers were a waste of money, but we still asked to see the chairs at our venue before making a decision. It turns out that they're blue and thus fit with our colours, so that made the choice much easier for us. And I like the fact that they add a touch of colour.

Perhaps just do sashes? I agree, I don't like the look of chair covers, unless they are the (expensive) tight fit stretch ones... and even then, I think chair covers require sashes or it looks strange. So that can be $2-4 per cover, plus $1-2 per sash, plus $1-2 per set-up fee.... Next thing you know you've spent $500-1000 on a "problem" no one thinks twice about.

The other girls are right... no one will remember/think too much about your chairs... but if you want some sort of nicer/cleaned up look for a shot of the reception hall before guests arrive... look into sashes. I tried to find some photos of them on chairs without covers. You can see that even on cheap metal folding chairs they can really make a difference. And then you can customize something to match your theme/colours perfectly.

Our venue has white plastic lawn chairs. I worry about one giving way on us or a guest, so we will be renting something. Depending on what we find to rent we may or may not be forced to get chair covers too.

I don’t like the chairs for our reception so instead of renting chairs that are more pricey we’re going with chair covers. Way cheaper and I am happy

Personally we hadn't any money left for rentals since the the Venue was setting up the chairs. Though it was white plastic for only 20 minutes of civil ceremony, evwryone was comfortable. Spending the extra money on rental chairs is unneeded in whole.

Our venue offers the white plastic lawn chairs for the ceremony which I refuse to have for our wedding.
The reception space offers peach coloured banquet chairs.
We’ll be renting at least one set of chairs and multipurposing them.

I also considered it... for about 2 min and then said forget it since they would be $6/chair x 175 people. The only time they will be noticed is before anyone arrives when photos are taken. I love those rectangle high back gold chairs. But or venue has chairs that are room need back with gold frame and burgandy fabric. Burgandy is in our colour scheme so they won’t be out of place. My planner suggested having some fabric tied around them so it looks like a flower or a different design so we may go with something like that instead.

I think it's a waste of money. People won't remember the chairs. But, if you are wanting a picture of the whole reception area, you will see those chairs (not so much once people are sitting down though) so it is up to you: a handful of pictures will probably have chairs actually showing. If you do rent, I suggest just renting one set and moving them from the ceremony to reception space to save a bit (if they're at the same place)

Can I see the picture of the hall chair? Also depends on how many chairs you will be renting? If a little may be worth it.
