Potluck

Allen, on January 1, 2019 at 16:48 Posted in Wedding reception 0 6
We're doing a potluck dinner for our reception, as this will allow us to have as many people as we wish(max 100) where as it would have been 50 or less. Who's done it? I'm making a sheet to send to everyone to choose something off of it to bring so no one brings doubles or triples. Plus our families are full of amazing cooks!

It's funny because my aunt said shes bringing her orzo salad (Greek pasta that looks like rice, it's sooo good) and a large ham, and my cousins are bringing the meatballs everyone likes and my FH cousin is bring taco casserole.

Ooooh, that's gonna be good! I think you're on the right track. Just keeping it organized, kind of "first come, first pick" basis on food, and then make a note or something saying, "If you would like to bring something else, please let the bride know"... so that if an Aunt is like, "Oh I must make my famous XFamilyFavouriteMealX!" you know it's coming... Haha.

I love the idea! Its waaaayyyyy too much planning for me to try and handle/manage but I think it would be an absolute blast! As mentioned before, I would give people certain courses to bring... even can throw in options like Veggie/Non-Veg to make sure there's something for everyone!

John Smith - Vegetarian Main Course

    Jane Collins - Meat Appetizer

I think that this idea is fine - but just keep in mind that most people will want to bring a side dish rather than a main due to costs. With that being said, maybe you could provide at least one main meat for the potluck for everyone to avoid a salad only supper?

My parents went to one. They were told to bring a dish depending on their last name. I don’t remember the categories but, for example, last names A-G brought a main dish, H-O brought salad and P-Z brought dessert. That way, it gave everyone some choice as to what to bring but they also knew they would have some variety.
