Postponing

Amanda, on May 16, 2020 at 09:06 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13
Is anyone’s venue trying to up their prices for postponing until the following year? We booked our venue at the beginning of the year for August so we got a fairly good discount. Now due to covid we are hoping to postpone but are being told we will have to pay 3000$ more for our venue. Plus an extra 10$ per person! We signed a contract stating that if in anyway by an emergency or act of god we could get our money back and now they are saying that it is up to the venue if they want to. They are only allowing me to postpone for the winter months or beginning of next year without making us pay more. What does everyone think is that fair for them to do that? I’ve heard of many friends postponing until a year later with no additional costs.

That’s so awful. My heart goes out to you. I read your last comment too that you can’t cancel or you lose 6K2,. That is beyond unfair. I’m wondering if it would be worth taking them to court? Not sure if that’s the route you’d wanna go as I’m sure it’s messy and costly too.

My venue refuses to refund my 6000$ if I cancel. But if I decide to postpone to the date I want they are going to charge me extra for the venue plus extra money per persons plate. So I will be paying almost 4000$ more just because I chose to post pone. I find it unfair that I am even told to pay those prices, I would love to be getting married in August but with everything happening it won’t be possible for us. They haven’t even been the slightest bit considerate.

Right plus probably around another extra 1000$ on top of that for people’s plates now because that is an additional cost! They have increased that! I just feel so disappointed that such an amazing venue we fell in love with could be so inconsiderate!

So sad because as if any of us want to go through the stress of postponing due to this but now the chance of losing out on money because of it is super unfair! Or even having to pay more it makes me so upset! I don’t think we should have to pay more just because there’s a world pandemic !! Ugh it’s super frustrating and upsetting

We’ve postponed with no additional costs from the venue or our other vendors. That’s horrible and greedy to ask for an additional $3000!!!! It’s not your fault you have to postpone!! Totally unfair

The venue is going on basis of their decision of what their contracts are being changed for next year as the waiving charge can apply or taken on their part to take off. The amount to pay for next year is more than expected and the food prices do increase on their changes on the fine print.

The choices will depend on what you two decide to do

    1. Accept the later part of year to get married and not pay the extra amount.

    2. Cancel when you have another venue of your choice given your budget.

My venue said they can no longer guarantee the price we were given when we booked over a year ago for this June (we rescheduled for next year in May because of Covid) since they aren't even sure if we will be allowed to have buffet style meals and the price of food may go up (they waived the hall fees if we got food through them). They asked that we be patient for pricing since everything is up in the air right now. I'm pretty frustrated and if it is a lot more I might just cancel and lose the deposite then have a small backyard wedding instead with less people. I kind of understand though, they can't run an event at a deficit. Just annoying that it is happening. Right now we are just waiting and hoping things are normal enough by then that it isn't more than what we originally agreed to.
