Postpone or Stay with date

Corynn, on January 7, 2021 at 01:23 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 6
I’m at a cross road

Our wedding date is August 8th 2021 and my fiancé and I are wondering if we should try to postpone our wedding to 2022.
We have 110 guest expected to attend our wedding, indoor ceremony and reception (can’t be outdoors due to being allergic to basically outside 😂) . We have 10 people coming from the States and the rest live in Ontario.
With covid vaccine prediction only up to July it’s still unclear what August will be like.
I literally have no one to turn to who is going through the same thing 😅

Hopefully the date is safe when it comes around this year to proceed. Restrictions upon this year and depending on this year should bring the numbers up eventually for your full guest list to pursue attending.

Postponing will depend if your day will not take place, lowering the guest list to proceed as planned and have your day be special though feeling disappointed in a way.

We just had to postpone from NYE due to the lockdown (still got married) and our vendors (we're not in GTA) had told us that many venues who can safely hold more than 50 had been lobbying to be allowed to host more than 50. They have been told this will not even be CONSIDERED until potentially July at the earliest. That being said, if they do allow it, I don't see the government moving from 50-100 let alone over 100 that quickly. Like everyone else said, if you can't see yourself cutting down your guestlist, I'd postpone... We were in the same boat originally and thought we could never do it (from 130) but we did and we are still very happy with the idea of 50. Obviously you know what you want though 😊 good luck!

If you’re not willing to decrease numbers to 50 or potentially even less then postpone.

If you absolutely want 110 people to attend and cannot cut anyone for whatever reason, then you should postpone. I just can't see this summer being any more relaxed in rules compared to last summer, and we were only allowed 50 people max indoors. And if the current framework stays in place, then Toronto will likely be in the Red Zone (which means only 10 people are allowed inside) unless we start seeing a big drop in infections. Yes, vaccines are here but our provincial government has been absolutely terrible at giving them to people.

My fiance and I are going ahead with our August 7 2021 wedding as of right now. We already postponed our first date August 8 2020 back in May and don't really want to postpone again. The only way that we'd postpone again is if gathering sizes don't increase for then 10.

I would wait until maybe the end of March early April or even wait until May before you make a final decision about your wedding. Things might look up by then and you can still have your big day. A lot of things can happen in 8 months from now! Just make sure that your venue and your vendors have in your contracts that you're able to switch to a new date if you need to with no extra cost.

Are you ok with changing your plans, potentially at the last minute, if restrictions don't allow for this wedding? If not I would postpone. If you're ok with a smaller wedding and potentially missing a few people then I would keep the date and hope for the best.

A lot can happen between now and August. I truly hope that vaccination will make it easier for people to enter from the states (my in-laws are in Wisconsin) and for gatherings to be more normal. It's just so hard to guess what this year will bring!
