Popular wedding trends you don't like

Shla, on February 6, 2019 at 20:01 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 31
What is a popular wedding trend that you, personally, don't like?

For me it's the whole mason jar and burlap thing and the "Mr. Right Mrs. Always Right" themes. The jars can look pretty but for me they're just super overdone.

I definitely agree with this I love how it looks but way overdone, I am working really hard at trying to be unique.. I’m working based on us as a couple. What we like doing, our birthstone, and birth month flowers, little things like that. Plus what I really like.

A trend I personally don’t love is the whole naked cake thing is nice, but after it gets overdone it seems a bit too kitschy..

This! I find they look incredibly tacky too depending on the rest of the décor.

I think most trends have their merit for whichever bride wants to use them.. but I agree, naked cakes are dumb. Icing is the best part. And I used to love the "Mrs. Always Right" stuff when I was younger, but now I realize it's quite demeaning...

One popular trend I dislike is oversized high vases. They seem too much though the beauty of it is there. I don't believe the cost justifies what can be given for a simple look.

I'm not a fan of flowers. I can't do anything too strongly scented, so when people have tons of flowers, the smell can give me a headache. I also hate large centerpieces, which tend to be flowers in vases. I've been to a few weddings where they had round tables and the centerpieces were so tall, you couldn't see the person sitting across from you. They can also get in the way of the place setting, especially if there are multiple plates or glasses per person on the table. I don't know if you can call flowers at a wedding a trend because they've been a trend for so long they almost seem like a staple, but there won't be any at my wedding.

I'm not a fan of the fully sequined bridesmaid dresses, sure they look nice, but those poor girls' arms must be so freaking sore and scratched up by the end of the night!

Naked cakes can go away, most of the time wedding cake isn't the greatest tasting because it has to be baked so far ahead for decorating , give me some rich and delicious buttercream to compensate!

I personally don’t like the rustic look for weddings. So I definitely agree with everyone on the mason jars and burlap!

I hate the rose gold trend for bridesmaids dresses/wedding accents.

I’m also not into sequinned dresses.

everyone is so spot on with the naked cake!!! Just not for me personally.

Hate the naked cake trend with a fiery passion. We had one for our niece's baptism, it was the WORST.

I agree with what you mentioned.

I also can't stand the typical white linen-covered chairs, overdone signage, blush, pastel, excessive decorating (it looks tacky), barn weddings (except if there's tradition or significance to it), flower crowns (again, unless there's a cultural or thematic reason for it), and the bohemian/rustic look in general.

I'm sure there's more, though, LOL.

Bridesmaids in dusty rose! Omg every wedding I've been too lately the girls have been in this colour. Its not a flattering colour on me and I have to wear it for a wedding I'm in so its a real touchy subject for me atm.
Also Donut walls have proven nasty. At 2 seperate weddings now I've watched people touch multiple donuts before choosing one to go with- why! People are savages don't trust them to grab their own dessert.

    Where do I start?!

The rustic/burlap/mason jar thing is getting pretty played out IMO

NAKED CAKES - I'm having my cake and eating my icing too!

The trapped man/woman is always right tropes

matchy-matchy wedding party (same dress, same colour on everyone)

    Too much lace/florals/pink!

Flower walls - they look pretty but my allergies say no

Clinking glasses/kissing games - I'm kind of over them and just want to eat dinner, mingle with my friends/family, be all heart eyes with my FH Smiley love I don't need clinking glasses or kissing games no one plays to want to kiss my FH.

I personally love the Geometric trend, but it's quickly becoming so used up in every single wedding, I seem like a hipster when it comes to wedding trends since I want something not mainstream Smiley winking

I'm sure I have more lol

So glad that's not just us. 😂 I screw up and end up apologizing and saying he was right a lot more often than he does. 😂

No need for “whoops”. They’re just trends that’s aren’t for me.

I think both styles/trends can be beautiful, but my mother/aunts dresses me in a lot of pink when I was a kid so it’s a hard pass for me. And when I think rustic, I think of those wooden log plays that they use on Chopped, and how the food served on them never matches the woodsy feel so there’s an instant disconnect (I watch too much Chopped🤣).

Oh naked cakes. I agree, they just look unfinished. If I'm paying so much money for a cake I want it to look fully finished and decorated

100 times yes! I really don't like all those jokes that the guy is being forced into marriage or that his life is over. Marriage is a happy thing and the starting of a new life together.

I'm also in the camp that isn't a fan of mason jars . I'm a country girl, but the mason jar rustic thing is getting overdone. Years ago before it was everywhere it was cute.

Yes!! I hate that, too. All my friends have this "Mr. Right" and "Mrs. Always Right" sign they use. And I'm like...what? Or the various other versions of one not mattering in it all. Drives me up the wall. 🤣

I hate anything that jokes about the woman holding the man captive, or how he is not free, or anything super heteronormative. I detest those signs that say something like "last chance to run!" Maybe it's just because my FW and I are two women, but we are still individuals with lots of respect for each other. It just gets on my nerves. We live in a time where we can choose who we are with... and there are folks who don't get that choice, and girls that are forced to marry old men in some countries. So anyways, not to be a downer. It just makes me angry. Smiley winking

Mason jars for sure, they’re everywhere! and although i love the look of the geometric shape candle holder things, they’re getting to be quite overdone. i’m doing my best to keep my “rustic” decor as unique as possible but omg it’s tricky

YES!!! That's the only thing people keep telling me to use for my rustic wedding!!! If I have to look at any more burlap I may just implode!!

I also don't care for photo booth's, donut walls, and NAKED CAKES! That last one is just so... unfinished? lol I'm sure some people love it and can't get enough - but I'm not one of those people. Clearly I'm not artsy enough!

I am personally not a fan of rustic/burlap wedding themes. I also don't love chalk board table numbers. I have a very special Lady in my life that is a Huge and I mean huge fan of the Dollar Store. We all chose a Country Club for our venue and there have been several uncomfortable conversations about why we don't want say a Dollar Store center piece or chalk board table number because they don't fit with our venue...
