Does the groom / groomsmen need them? I really don’t like them

If you don't like them then skip them! Or let the guys pick if they want to.

My husband skipped the pocket square and no one mentioned it. He looked fab without one.

My husband bought one, but then while he was setting up the speakers before the ceremony managed to lose it in the field, and figures it was carried away by the wind. Nobody even noticed he wasn't wearing it until he said he lost it.

Easy ... if you don’t like them, don’t do them! Your wedding - your decisions Smiley smile Plus no one is going to say in 5 year ... “remember that wedding?.. the boys didn’t have pocket squares!!”

If I remember correctly, your groom is wearing a tuxedo and if so, a pocket square is needed. Omitting the pocket square would make the ensemble incomplete. With white tie fading more and more into obscurity nowadays, a tuxedo ensemble is the most formal dress that many people will see today so you wouldn't want to give the impression that the guys don't know what they're doing or not putting in the effort to look their part.

If you're afraid it's too busy of a look, they do not need to match the bridesmaids colours. A plain white cotton one will work and they don't need to have fancy folds either.

My fiance and I aren't using them. We both think it's a bit much with the boutonnieres
