Plates

I am wondering what people think about glass plates and silverware VS good quality plastic plates and plastic cutlery that looks like silverware. Do you think it will matter? Renting the glass plates and real silverware just doesn't seem worth it to me for the extra charge per plate. One aunt has commented that it's going to look cheap without the glass plates, another person has said the food quality is all people will remember, not the plates and cutlery. Our venue is a hall at a lake so not extremely fancy and we have 200 supper guests.
Also what about charger plates? Worth the extra money or should we pass? We are divided on the topic looking for any opinions!

Glassware vs. plastic is something you have to consider and isn't cheap looking for the plastic if the effort saves to throw out the garbage easily. Quality of the food is more important since you want to enjoy the taste and flavours rather than thinking the plate looks better to eat. LOL

Glassware is nice and elegant though the price your paying seems worth it for the amount of guests to make it better looking and eating.

Plasticware given the silver colour and sturdy paper plates makes it as nice and easy to allow your guests to throw out after when done eating. We did attend a family reception where paper plates and plastic cups were served for them to keep their costs low and everyone enjoyed themselves. This doesn't make it look cheap at all if that's what your wondering.

Most weddings people don't take note of the cutlery and plates unless there is something wrong with them (like knives that don't cut) or if they are AMAZING (like the fact that I had copper cutlery at my wedding which had never been seen by any of my guests before).

I would say it's fine to go with the plastic ones as long as they do what they are supposed to do.

As for charger plates - I was in the same spot... not worth the money. What we ended up doing was buying custom napkins and put them where the charger plates would have went Smiley smile

I'm going to be brutally honest, so sorry in advance, but I don't think there's any reason good enough to use that much single-use plastic. If you decide on not using rentals, you can definitely find some cute paper/wood plates and wood cutlery so they can be composted and they'd fit a lakeside theme really well.

My inner tree hugger says rent the reusable instead of disposable plastic. If it's reusable plastic can you realistically sell it afterwards? If so go for it!

I think as far as the look, guests probably won't notice or care about the plates. The cutlery might matter more. Depending on what your serving you might need a real knife to cut meat vs a plastic one that might not be able to make the cut.
I personally think charger plates are a waste of space and money, but some people love them. I like the more clean minimalist look without them myself.
