Planning the Wedding Ourselves!

Jelynne, on November 13, 2019 at 08:43 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 10

My wedding is just about 9 months away! I'm currently in nursing school and my fiance works full time. Before I started school I made sure to plan as much for the wedding as I could.

Unfortunately hiring a wedding planner is out of the budget and my wedding party can only help so much as they have quite busy lives as well.

I've done quite well in my opinion with all the planning that's been done already! But I can't help but feel like with all the lists I've made and things I have crossed off that I am missing something...

Is there any checklists out there that anybody else planning their own wedding is using? I just want to make sure I'm not gonna have a lightbulb moment the night before the wedding of something I've forgotten!

I made my own list from a ton of websites and searches on google. then as vendors tell me information they need or ask me to do things i add it to my list. but there are hall, decor, ceremony, flowers, dress, suits, caterer, limo, hotel, photo/videos, wedding entertainment/games, honeymoon, make ur guestlist and seating charts, pick all ur songs for entrances and parents and wedding party , invitations, wedding party attire, parents attire.

I second Jamie Wolfer! She also recently launched The Master Plan which is an online wedding planner that is $199 USD for 6 month access or $299 USD for a whole year. Definitely cheaper than an in-person wedding planner.

I also use(d) the Wedding Wire checklists. You can add/delete/edit tasks as needed (I added vendor final payments so I would not forget).

Any time I make a checklist I like to mentally walk myself through the day I'm planning. It always helps me realize if I've forgotten something.

I searched Pinterest for some different check lists that had some different thing since may have forgotten.
So I used both the wedding wire one and then another one from Pinterest.
I also made my own list from WW discussions.

I find the WeddingWire checklist on here to be super helpful.

I made my own checklist which identifies the item, i.e. wedding dress, for example, the vendor I used for the item, the cost/any deposit required, and next steps, i.e. final payment due X, or dress fitting on X day.

That's how I kind of follow along in where we are, plus it keeps me organized.

You're getting married the month after us, you have lots of time still - so try not to stress Smiley smile

9 months, you're almost there!!!! Planning while studying/working is a lot to keep up with. My fiancé and I both work but I work evenings and weekends so I'm lucky enough to use the weekdays to plan mostly. I've found a number of magazines have the timelines in the back. Go to your local drugstore or Walmart and find the bridal magazines, some checklists are more helpful than others but you can even take photos of each and then go home and create your own in Word or as an Excel spreadsheet.
My mom made us a wedding planning binder and printed a few checklists that were pretty helpful. You might find some good ones on google, or even pinterest. Although pinterest is harder to print lol
I'll try to send you a few as pictures or links this week 😊

Great job on keeping your planning successful so far and keeping your cool. The way I had planned out lists of what was needed and for areas of events/setups was by putting them into categories. Purchases made, vendor contracts signed and printed, rentals agreements and décor.

The time of planning was put into effect of Microsoft word to put all the information for budgeting what was spent and using the WW budget of the cost in whole to show the amount than doing it yourself. As that being said, there were 6 lists created along with bags to separate what was being done and in what manner to ease on time and confusion. These were the categories created:

    1. Garment bag - Wedding/Reception outfits/suits and accessories

    2. Reception Set up - Head/Gift/Guest table decors (Hurricane lamps, flutes, table numbers, guest book w/pen & escort cards)

    3. Guest favours with Thank you cards with seating plan

    4. Bag for clothes (every day wear and toiletries)

    5. Welcome bags pre made & cases of bottled water & information packages per room

    6. Wedding day items - Programs, Wedding folder with all information needed on hand, speech, guests rooms sheet

Each of these bags had a list of contents put and what part of the set up or where to be placed when arriving. Given all the details were provided to the vendors for the wedding day schedule, a copy of it was with me as well to make sure things flowed well and on time and the same for photos/DJ music.
