Planning during covid!

Alyx, on February 5, 2021 at 23:10 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9
Back story- I got engaged in august 2020 and I’m starting to plan our wedding for September 2022. Vendors and venues are already being booked up so I feel I should keep planning before everything’s booked. My question is all the brides that were supposed to have there wedding last year and couldn’t, do you recommend I keep planning my wedding for 2022 or wait till covid is “over”
We will be getting wedding insurance but in the terms and agreement it says not covered for any covid claims.

Plan as you are since you don't want to lose out on the date neither when its cleared up. You do want to have everything put into a folder or binder to have the contacts, contracts, emails, purchases and other information available when needed. Covid should be questioned since now companies are accounting that factor into their contracts as no refunds. Congrats on your engagement!

Thank you!! Stupid me I never even thought to ask the vendors their terms on covid refund policies. Wedding insurance doesn’t cover any covid claims unfortunately.

Plan away, but make sure all your vendors are clear in terms of their postponing policies. I am very hopeful 2022 will be better.

We're planning for late April 2022, hoping that will at least give us a chance to have a more traditional wedding. However, I'm not getting any younger so if by this time next year it looks like we can't do a 100-person wedding on our date, then we will just do a micro wedding. I asked my fiancé if he wanted to go this route from the outset and he said no, he'd rather have an event with our friends and family. So, we're planning for 2022 but aware that we're not in complete control of it.

I think your chances for September 2022 are much better than this year. I think a lot of people who postponed from 2020 to 2021 didn’t understand or didn’t want to believe how long a vaccine would take to develop and administer and unfortunately are now in another bad situation in 2021. Now that there are approved vaccines and more on the way the timeline to herd immunity becomes much more clear. Even if Canada continues on this current trajectory with vaccinations I’ve seen projections that we should have herd immunity by mid-2022 so September should be ok for larger weddings. Hopefully we’ll reach it earlier than that.

Something that might be useful for planning would be to look at restrictions on weddings in places like Australia where the virus is mostly under control. If we have herd immunity it’s possible our restrictions might be similar to theirs until the entire world has been vaccinated. I think projections are 2023 or 2024 for that.

The hardest part is no one knows when "over" will be. We all hope that normal is very soon, and this last year has taught us all that everything can change (for better or for worse) at the touch of a hat.

If you're willing to be a little flexible I would go ahead with planning for 2022. There's a small chance that you might need to change a guest list, or maybe can't have the buffet of your dreams, or there may still be a few people attending virtually.

Exactly what Stephanie said! We postponed from last year to this year thinking restrictions would be lifted etc. And right now it’s even stricter. Keep planning with it in mind that we don’t know when covid will be over. If you’re not willing to compromise on how your wedding will look just keep in mind covid!

Honestly, as someone from last year who postponed to this year and thought it would be better it's so hard to predict exactly what it will look like next year even. So decide what is important to you. I literally just finished having this conversation with my fiance. My fiance would have eloped in Vegas even in the first place so to him a big wedding didn't matter. I've definitely changed my perspective on a lot of what I thought was important to me that this summer we are going to go with whatever it can be. So really in the end it's what's important to you if things still are not pre-covid normal next year.
    Happy planning!!!
