Planning blues

Shannon, on January 15, 2020 at 11:01 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 17

Good Morning WW,

Its almost a year since my FB proposed. I have alot of planning done. But I stopped being excited before christmas. Now 8 months out, the holidays are over and I have no motivation to move forward. I still need flowers and cake. Has anyone experienced this and how did you push through?

This weekend I Will be attending the Wedding show in Ottawa and I'm hoping this will give me that wedding planning bug back.

YES!!! 2 year engagement, started planning, then no date, then depressed. Now full ball rolling again.

    Attending wedding shows helps.

But take this time to regroup yourself. Plan a fun date for you and your fiance. something you both loved to do when first dating - help rekindle some excitement.

Then go back to planning...try some pinterest ideas.

Set up a coffee date with girlfriends to go over some planning to make it fun.

Do some crafting for the wedding with friends too helps to motivate!

Planning blues are part of the process when the holidays come around. Just get inspired with what you love most and take it one day at a time. The moment will arise when excitement of the planning comes into effect of cake tasting and flowers. Don't get down on yourself, get up and stand strong.

I definitely felt like this last year lol

It's definitely normal to hit planning blues/slumps and the best thing might even be doing something you enjoy OUTSIDE of wedding planning (e.g. skiing, baking, etc.). Take a few days to forget about wedding planning and eventually regroup your planning efforts with the Wedding Show.

I also found talking to bridal party, family about non-wedding things help too, as I found I was probably really frustrated with everyone asking about wedding stuff and not how I was in general. You can also ask for their help with a task if your motivation is hibernating.

Ah the planning slump. It’s a pain.
I found talking to vendors and coordinating my invites pushed the blues aside. The wedding show will definitely help! When it was really bad, sometimes a drive by the venue was all I needed to perk back up.

I went through that briefly once all our main vendors were booked. I just didn't want to deal with the smaller details at all. Sending out our Save the Dates a couple months ago felt like a big milestone though and helped get some mojo back. Are you starting to think about invites?

A little boost is exactly what I need. I think during this weekend bridal show I'm going to, will do the trick. I'm looking forward to the 2020 dresses. I still have yet to gone dress shopping. Invitations also I need to work on. So one thing at a time is slowly getting done.

    Thanks Kelsie,

Sorta, I started gathering what we need to get our passports, which reminds me I have to schedule an appointment.

I started to get really excited with the honey moon. Then the passports really stressed me out. It's a long story and not going to be an easy process. Thanks for the reminder. Smiley smile

I’ve definitely been there before. I went through a stretch where between doing so much planning and dealing with some personal and family things I really hit a wall and just lost a lot of my excitement.

I gave it a bit of time and made little baby steps in planning. If you can maybe lean on you’re fiancé a bit more and ask him to take on a bit more planning if you’re feeling burnt out.
As things inch closer you’ll probably get excited again. As others said, maybe making decisions on flowers and cake will help a bit.

It’s a very long exhausting process. Really easy to loose steam.

If florals and cake are two elements that you think your going to get excited about then I think as you plan those things you’ll naturally hit your second wind. Get a little boost of good wedding planning vibes.
If not ... keep it simple and don’t get too weighed down by it so you can refocus and move onto something else that excites you.
Are you having a shower? Your shower will come around before the actual wedding day and it’s a good time to connect with friends and family who are excited for you - I kind that helps when you don’t feel “alone in this”.
I did have a moment of complete disengagement for a while and just kinda let it happen. When I got my groove back I really got into it. For example, we are not having a DJ so I painstakingly curated playlists for our ceremony + reception. It was kinda exhausting BUT I ended up making customs playlist cover art that said our date and names and what “section” of the wedding the playlist was for. It just made me smile looking at that little detail. No one will see it but it didn’t take me long just something cute for myself that gave me a little boost back into my step.

This is me right now! Basically I’m just making a list and tackling each item one at a time.

So I’m working on my invitations right now.
My next thing is booking my mini set up at my venue where I get to see what the florals and decor look like.
I think the problem is planning is A LOT of work so it’s easy to understand how the joy of being engaged can just get ripped right out from under you because of stress.
I’ve kind of shifted my excitement into other things as well, I.e. the honeymoon. We are so pumped to get away after dealing with all of the stress of planning this wedding.
Have you booked your honeymoon/mini moon?
