Planning a wedding in under a year

Malyssa, on October 27, 2021 at 20:12 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 18
Hi everyone!

Hope you all are having a great Wednesday.
I've been busy lately in my mind thinking of plans for the big day. We haven't set a concrete date, our only considerations are waiting til my fiancé is done school next April. We know we want our wedding in fall, so my realy question here is...
...am I crazy to think I can plan a wedding in under a year?! I know alot would come down to availability but the few vendors I've been in touch with do have some dates for the time we're looking.
Thanks for any tips or advice anyone can provide.

I think planning a wedding in under a year would be no problem. If I had to do it again. I would give myself about four to eight months between engagement and the wedding. That way planning would be fun but not feel stretched out.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE ADVICE!

We officially booked our venue and we now have a date! I guess I need to dive head into this planning game, since the countdown is official on!

Its not crazy to plan a wedding under a year time and to get everything you need done before the day. If you feel weddings this long is going to feel short for planning, Indian weddings are planned within 6 months of engagement. That too, with all the cost and shopping to do for the families is a lot than just one day of celebrations. Consider 3 pre events even before the wedding day itself to arrange.

You are fine and will be okay with the time you have. Its great you two are waiting for the program to finish so you can focus on the wedding day as it could be a double celebration of your fiancé graduating the same year too.

Many of couples plan a wedding in under a year so yes its definitely doable but like you said you have to take into consideration that a lot of vendors are going to book up fast! So really it just comes down to if you are prepared to book your vendors quickly or running into some vendors not having your date

Currently planning my wedding in under a year! Stressful but I'm cutting out a lot of the big things. Planning a very small ceremony during a week day to save money and have a camping reception on the weekend. BYOB BBQ

ALSO, not sure if you are buying your dress new or used, but if new try and get it ASAP as some places take up to 6 months to have your dress ordered/delivered (not including alterations!)

Maybe we are both crazy! My fiancé and I got engaged at the end of July 2021 and our wedding is April 2022. It’s not easy, especially with an ongoing pandemic, but definitely doable. Definitely lock down your vendors as soon as you can Smiley smile

We got engaged September 2021 and only just booked our venue the other day for September 2022. There's time, but it's still under a year. We're getting married on a Friday which is making finding vendors a lot easier as not a lot of couples seem to be getting married on Fridays, and it definitely helped us out with the cost of our venue! It's totally doable - stay creative & think outside the box!

Helpful (hopefully) info that I didn't realize - there are a lot of places out there that do weddings that can't advertise as such because of what their main property use is. IE: we're getting married on a working farm, so they can't advertise as a venue specifically. Definitely look at wedding photographer blogs as that's how we discovered our gem!

I am in the same boat as you we got engaged 2 months ago and getting married in august 2022. The hardest part is finding a vendor that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg but I perfectly doable. We already booked our venue and church and are currently looking to find the others . Good luck 😊

Absolutely! I got engaged late September, getting married late April 2022. I already have a venue, church, photographer and videographer, and just working on booking the right florist, wedding cake baker, and makeup artist (and all of those also have availability the day I need them)! I definitely hauled butt this month looking, researching, and visiting my options, but it is DEFINITELY feasible. That said: I'm getting married in the "off season" here in Canada, where there's snow on the ground. I'd prioritize the reception and ceremony venue first, then cross off the other things that need booking: photographer, videographer, cake vendor, makeup/hair stylist, florist, transportation, any other decoration service, etc.

You've definitely for this. Smiley smile

Thanks everyone! I'm glad the first thing I started to do was look at vendors. We have pretty low numbers for guests and so far the few vendors I have contact have some availability. Fingers crossed (Im just too excited to wait any longer hahaha Im sure you can all relate)

Hey Malyssa. I believe its doable, my Fiancée and I are getting married on our proposal anniversary, May 2022. Set a budget, pick a couple dates and start contacting venues for availability. Get the major things booked and out of the way. Make a list to keep organized and on top of things, you will be successful! Congratulations and good luck Smiley smile

Not at all. A year is a typical timeline for a wedding. Just keep things within reasonable expectations. By that, I mean having the appropriate budget that can match what you're able to save within 11 months, not overdoing it on DIY projects since he's in school, finding time to do site visits ASAP etc.

I'm in the same boat as you. We have it set for May 2023 but are thinking of moving it up to the day we met which is my grandmothers birthday Sept 2022. I think it is definitely doable. Just need to hope for availability. Good Luck and congrats.
