Plan C! Small Wedding

Mike, on January 7, 2021 at 23:50 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 4

Hello,

It's not an easy decision, but with this unprecedented time we are more inclined on a potential Plan C! You must be wondering, why C? Well, Plan B was in case of rain haha! Also to make it a little more mysterious.

I live in Montreal, QC, Canada. We are currently on 'Level 4' which means complete Lockdown of the city and no gathering. In summer, we were in 'Level 1' which was more of a vigilance level. Gathering of up to 10 people. Wedding Hall up to 200 people. Recently 'Level 1' was changed to 50 peoples for Wedding Hall.

Hence, we are speculating that the wedding will NOT happen Smiley sad! We need a Plan C.

We want to just invite the bridal, parents and very very close friends which totals to ~25 people. We will do it in a Home Backyard that can easily accommodate 50 people comfortable.

The list of important vendors:

- Catering Service

- Tent & Table & Chairs

- Flowers / Decorations

No DJ, Photographer and Videographer will be present for a little.

Am I missing something?

Do you think it will be possible to find a catering service that provides Filet Mignon in my City? I checked online and did not find any.

Also, this topic is to discuss about this day. All tips are welcome.

You seem to have everything laid out well. The baker included on your vendors for cake or dessert? Heaters would be good to keep your guests from being cold in a closed tent. Another vendor as Hank mentioned being important is the Officiant to be included. \

Filet mignon is great to separate your rare, medium and others for guests to pick their cooked choice upon asking everyone personally. Another way to indicate is to colour pick which guest gets their steak cooked being organized and gems put on a escort card to be placed at their seats.

Come to think about it, Hank you are right about the Filet Mignon. I will have a standard home kitchen haha. What if the caterer brings a propane heater to keep food warm?

We have power around the backyard, but you are right. It won't be enough light for when it gets dark. We will need crazy lights.

That is true for the bathroom (We do have 2 washrooms, but yeah it will be busy).

She will need hair and makeup but not a lot. Why?

Parking, forgot to mention. We will have a friend driving my Tesla to get people from a church 5 min from my house. Got to stay green!

That's great! Do you have a picture of the finger food Smiley smile I would love to see how you set it up! Kudos to moms!!!

It will be blazing hot, it will be in the end of July (the 24th). If it rains, we will try to do it indoor! Haha.

    Officiant will be at Church!

We did something similar. We had about 20 people including the officiant and photographer. Our ceremony was outdoors on a beach at our favorite park and then we came back to my parents house for a small reception. We stayed indoors, and instead of a full meal we had finger foods which mom and I prepared the bulk of the day before.

Depending on the season will everyone be warm enough in a tent? Is there an option to rent a few patio heaters just in case? I would also recommend a tent with sides incase it's wet or windy (or both). I agree with Hank that professional catering will be really tough to do filet mignon so far from their kitchen, I would reach out to a favorite restaurant or two and see if they could cater and ask how they would keep food hot/cold (you may need to rent proper serving dishes for them or from them).

The thing with filet mignon (and any good cut of steak, really) is, it needs to be prepared in the same place that you eat it at otherwise it'll be cold when you eat it, or it may overcook if you keep it warm. Then you're overpaying a lot of money for a subpar product.

Just another note about caterers, I'm going to guess you won't have access to an industrial-grade kitchen for them to prepare their meals, which means everything will need to be pre-cooked and delivered to your site. Can your kitchen even reheat 25 meals simultaneously? If not, you might as well just order take out from your favourite restaurant instead of using a caterer.

Other things to keep in mind are:

    1) Power - Are you playing any music or using a microphone for your speeches? How about lights when it gets dark? You'll need power for that. Will you use a generator or run power lines from inside your house?

    2) Bathrooms - 25 people is not too many people but ever been to a big family gathering and everyone is using the one guest toilet? Now imagine that situation where everyone is in formal wear. And imagine a tipsy gentlemen makes a mess everywhere before one of the ladies need to use it. Might want to figure that out.

    3) Does your bride need hair and makeup?

    4) Is there parking for everyone?

    5) Don't forget your officiant lol
