Photography and videography

Natasha, on September 6, 2018 at 22:59 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 8
Hi everyone!

We're doing a destination wedding and I'm wondering what the typical cost is for photos and videos. Like what is the average price one pays for this and what # is too much?!

Also, any tips on moments to definitely capture and pay for or don't bother with?

And is a videographer really worth getting?

Thanks,
Natasha

Its worth getting both. Price range varies on the packages you choose with the vendor. At the same time, consider thr fact you two are responsible to pay for their travel costs on top as well as meals for each event.

Choose 3 vendors that best suit your pricing and inquire about extras (travel, meals, and hotel rooms). Add the costs to your budget and see if its worth it.

Another option is asking the venue to get the vendors they work their hotel to save that cost of excess from here.

IMO it’s a good deal for both! Ours works out to over $3250 just for photography for the day. It’s would have been an extra $1500 for videography, so we opted not to get it. I love in wedding videos when the bride and groom are getting ready and they take a break to talk about their partner and why they love them, so sweet!

Thats a good price for photography/video together. I personally think video getting ready is weird. unless its your friend filming on her phone and its fun/moment with the girls.

my friends paid around 1500 USD for just photography in Jamaica.

    what does the videography include?

    Hi Natasha,

I'm not getting a videographer (as of now) because I feel like I would never watch my wedding video! I might set a tripod up and do a DIY video of the ceremony that won't break the bank. I feel like you wouldn't need to have videos of anything else, like getting ready so you could probably skip on it.

Photo packages around $1200 are pretty standard (USD) which is more in CAD. $2000 CAD for photos seemed like a lot and I capped my photo budget at $2500.

Moments I'd definitely get captured are: the first kiss, bride down the aisle, groom's reaction, register signing, ring placement (close up), couple leaving ceremony, first dance at reception, grand entrance, any cool details of your venue/decor, and any candid shots of you, your FH, and wedding party. First look is gaining in popularity but is entirely optional. I might to "first look" photos with my bridal party and parents while getting ready.

Thanks ladies. Destination is Punta cana, DR. Only ceremony photos are included in our chosen wedding package. There's additional packages to choose from for anything extra and the packages go by continuous hours and in USD$.

It looks like the photo package will run $1195usd and video package $1200usd$ and if purchased together I save 200usd$. So I'm looking at $2195usd (about $3000cad) for both.

The above option would begin at the ceremony to photos between ceremony a d receptuon and first 1.5 hours of reception like our photos. This means I wouldn't have any video of us getting ready. In your opinion, is this a must or don't bother? I will have some photos of us getting ready and of the groom and his side so I'm thinking that's good enough.

    Thoughts?

Like Gabbie said, it will depend where you are. For example - anything in Ontario is bound to cost more than over here in Manitoba where I am just based on the market and the demand for services.

I will be getting photography done through a friend so I will be just throwing a a few hundred dollars at her.

BUT! - when I was looking at getting a professional to do my photos I found that the price ranged from $1,750 - $4,000. (Make sure when you look around you know what you are getting for the price.)

As for a videographer - those cost about the same unfortunately. I know so many people here on wedding wire that say that they just had to have a video so I am going to just set up a tripod or something in order to have it recorded. My mom hated her wedding video - but that's because the person filming was a family friend and was wobbly and unfocused. Looking back she wouldn't have bothered having him film it at all - but she does admit if it was done correctly she would have loved to have it.

It depends on the destination, also, if you're doing the whole thing through a hotel, they might be able to recommend or even include photography.
