I have been told by my Venue coordinator that we are not allowed to go off and take pictures around the golf course (which I get if we are in the way of golfers) but she told me I was only allowed to use the gazebo that we are using for the ceremony and the bridge which is right next to it. I am really upset that she won't give us any options for different locations for scenery as it is a huge property.

Also, she will only allow us 1 golf cart (2 seater) and we would have to pay to rent anymore. I think this is unreasonable. We are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to have our wedding there and I don't get to have the variety of pictures that I'm spending so much on a photographer for?

Let me know if you have any advice?

Hah yeah totally! Wish I had that kind of money!

Right? I was a bit freaked out when I asked if we could come by and see it all set up for a prior wedding and she said there aren't any and ours was the only one they have and I asked back in like April. So I totally agree she should be more accommodating since they have no other wedding businesses going on. I'm going to try my best. My fiance is better at shaking people down so I'll leave it to him lol

Haha, I was thinking "gurrrrll, lend me some of that budget!!" lol.

I find it odd too that you're the only wedding all summer at a golf course... normally every Saturday is booked from June to the end of September out at many of our golf courses in the Vancouver area...

I think you just need to be a squeaky wheel, and push/negotiate for some more perks... It's not like that have tons of brides to make compromises for... haha... really they should try and be a little more accommodating, especially since you may be their only wedding review for 2018.

Okay that's a good idea. I'll check it out. I will be talking to my photographer. They are the experts at this so I'm sure she will know of some place! Smiley smile

    Thanks Stephanie!

Yeah that's a good idea. I'll ask my photographer if there are other close by locations we can zip over to so we can get the pictures we want. Unfortunately, the closest location to someone we know is 20 mins away so I think that would take too long but I'm sure there has to be something close.

    Thanks for your advice Tyanna!

Yeah I get that and I would be on board but everytime we have been there, the parking lot has been empty and no one around so I don't think we will be disturbing anyone or taking up a golf cart that would be use. It seems to be a very quiet/ slow golf course.

You were probably smart for doing that. It was just literally the last thing on my mind that would be a road block which is frustrating. I'll see what my photographer says, she's from the area so I hope she can come up with something. We were planning the have the pictures taken after the ceremony and before the reception as there is a time gap from when dinner is served so everyone will be enjoying cocktail hour.

    Thanks so much Stephanie!

Lol sorry yes I meant to say tens. But even still.. I'm not saying be over the top and ask for too much, just to take some pics at more than 1 location for a back drop. It couldn't hurt them to lend a second golf cart. Every time we have been there it has been dead.. no golfers.. and we are their only wedding this summer which is odd but I thought they would be more helpful and understanding.

    Thanks for your input Brittany!

Yeah we booked it back in September October last year. We also just had our meeting with our photographer last week. That's a good idea. I'll send off an email to her and see what she thinks we could do. Maybe she can find a forest at our location as well.

Thanks for your advice Kelly! Smiley smile

Check what your contract with the venue has to say about the golf carts; if nothing is indicated you might be able to negotiate with them on amounts and price. The picture locations I understand and don’t think there is anything you can do there. Talk to your photographer about alternate photo locations nearby.

Is there somewhere else you can get your photos done? I realize that London of defeats the purpose but you sont want to feel like you regret your photos later on because you didn't look for something else! There are so many people that love to invite wedding parties to their properties for photos because it's a way for them to be able to see their yard put to good use after so much hard work to make it look beautiful!

Post on your local swap and shop page, I'm sure someone will know of something!

The venue may have rights and off limits for pictures around the golf course and the gilf cart.

As for the photographer to work around restrictions. She will figure out a way to get the best spots and with the cart.

It may be disappointing to hear that news from your coordinator. They don't want to lose their customers at the same time.

I don't think these strict rules are unique to your venue, and is one of the reasons that we ended up vetoing the golf course we were looking at. My suggestion is to talk to your photographer and see what they have to say, as they've likely encountered this problem before. If you are close by to someplace nice, consider going there to take some pictures. You can try and schedule a bit of extra time between your ceremony and reception so you have time for this. Also, consider doing a first look so you can get some good pictures elsewhere beforehand, if you don't want to keep your guests waiting for too long between your ceremony and reception. Good luck, and I hope everything else turns out great!

Sorry... just to clarify, hundreds of thousands?? As in, $100,000+ ?! If that's the case, they should lend you the entire fleet of golf carts, plus let you keep one as a gift... Haha.

But if you meant tens of thousands... even still.,.. you're totally right. You're a paying customer, spending a substantial amount of money, and you should at LEAST get 2 golf carts, one for the bride and groom, and one for the photographer... Let alone additional bridal party and family members...

I have definitely heard the rule of golf courses not actually allowing photos on any of the additional grounds... it's very distracting to players, plus you run the risk of getting injured and they are liable. But it's mostly for the other golfers.

The one golf cart thing is a bit much, but unfortunately their policy on photo locations is probably pretty set in stone... and it's very common for golf courses. Especially on the Saturday of the Labour Day long weekend.... They may not be able to "guarantee" carts, because they think they won't give one to you for free if they can rent it to a golfer and make more money.

I'd express your disappointment/concerns to the venue. Hopefully they can do something to make it better for you!

    Have you booked it yet?

If you have, then I would talk to your photographer, or potential photographers if you haven't booked one yet. See if they're familiar with the venue (and this policy). You never know, most photographers will have a bunch of places up their sleeves that aren't too far from the venue that are great photo op places. When we met with our photographer, she suggested we do our first look and couple/wedding party photos in the beautiful forest not far from or venue.

Also ask your event coordinator what other couples have done.
