Photography & videography

Ariana, on April 17, 2019 at 17:38 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 14
I’ve heard that photography can be very expensive. My brother paid around $7000 for his, but my sister paid around $1200 so I see it really varies. The two packages were very different though!
Just curious to see maybe the average cost of a photographer???
Also curious to see other peoples view on videography. Is it really necessary?
In my eyes it seems like an extra add on. Me and my FH would probably watch it once and thats it lol

Hey Ariana, did you end up finding a photographer?

I found a photographer for $3000 and I felt like it was a happy "medium" price that would get me a good bang for my buck. Mind you, I know people who've paid closer to $6000 for their photography and ended up with horrible pictures. I think it all comes down to research and an experienced photographer.

I think it depends on where you live and what the photographers can get away with charging. We were quoted anywhere from $2500-$4700 for photography for varying package sizes. In the end we decided we wanted to hire someone who does photography as a passion, not a profession, as we have had some horrible experiences with professional photographers for weddings we've been in (at one wedding the photographer straight up threw a huge tantrum and then refused to work for an entire hour because he wasn't getting his way and people weren't fitting his vision...no thank you). We wanted someone who would be relaxed and have fun with taking photos, not take it so seriously. When I met our photographer I immediately knew she was exactly who we were looking for! We are so happy with our choice. Our photographer has been a gem to work with and I can't wait to see the pictures she takes on our wedding day!!

If I could afford it I would have gotten it- having said that the photographer I really wanted was a fair price and didn't charge much to add it. He was my must have photographer and was a good price- my budget changed when I lost my job though and switching to new one. He would have been for 10 hours and videographery near 2500. The videography video would have been ten minutes and he takes different pieces thoughtout everything or captures what parts you wanted. My current photographer was 1700 and if pay cash no tax. If I was to have my engagement photos with her then it was 200 extra. She is there for 9 hours and we get a wedding album. In the area I am from it honestly depends on photographer what they charge. There was one girl I looked into and she was 4500 for 4 hours... and the wedding album included.

We are paying around $2700 for our photography package and that is for 10 hours with two photographers, a wedding album, unlimited photo edits, online photos for download, and I think that's everything.

For the videography we are paying just over $1000 for 8 hours of filming with two videographers and they will edit a highlight video and then the 10-15 mins video. They will also give us a video of all the speeches (which we want to keep cause our parents are making speeches).

Seeing what your siblings spent on their photographer/videographer package did vary on what they wanted to get for themselves. You can inquire and compare with 3 vendors you choose and take the best deal you find is worth based on your budget. They see how many hours and events your having.

Generally it costs more than what your brother paid when my cousins got married few years back and going to another cousins wedding that will cost them about $10 grand in whole for each based on 4 events taking place plus getting ready on their wedding days.

When I got married to my husband in August 2017, I only paid $1000 each vendor for the whole day starting 1pm.

As others have mentioned, the range for photographers really varies depending on packages, second shooters, etc. I found most were in the $1200-$4500 range, with the odd one being higher than that.

We aren't getting professional videography done, my parents had it and only watched their video 3 times in the 30 years they've been married. We might set up our friend's tripod camera for the ceremony so we at least we have the vows filmed.

Our photographers are $3400. That is their middle package. Their highest one is $4000 plus tax. They're a husband and wife team, so we get two photographers for that price.

We're not doing videography, just photos.

Photographers: Anywhere from $1,500 - $4,000 is what I have seen here in Manitoba.

Videographers: Anywhere from $2,000 - $7,000, they usually cost more (at least what I've seen).

COMBO: Starting at $4,000 and going up to $12,000

I went with a friend who does photography and I will be paying her probably close to $500 (she doesn't want me to pay her at all so this is really a compromise), and the videographer is only doing the ceremony so I was able to get a deal and it costs $500 + $125 travel fee + taxes = just over $700 (but I will be tipping on top).

Photographers price range is so huge, it completely depends on what you want your package to include. We are paying $2500.. to me that's reasonable and it includes a lot.

As far as a videographer they are amazing.. but really pricey. I personally am not using one for our wedding. We are going to Hawaii in the fall for our honeymoon and will be having a vow renewal ceremony there and I have hired a videographer for that because to me - I would rather have that to look back on. It will be very private and intimate, on the beach and a traditional hawaiian ceremony.

I'm good with just having pictures for our local wedding

Hey Ariana! As the PP's mentioned, photographers packages vary hugely depending on where you are and what you are looking for.

I searched in the ideas section for an article that might help you decide what exactly what you are looking for in a photographer and found this - How to Find a Wedding Photographer

I hope this helps with your search!Smiley smile

It all depends on time booked, number of photographers, and add-ons. I'd say $1200 is an amazing deal, though.

I feel like I'm kind of in the minority here, but I am wholeheartedly team videography! This (and music) were my top priorities for the wedding. My family has always loved home movies, though, and we watch them a lot. Imagine your own kids and grandkids watching your wedding video - it's so much more dynamic and detailed than pictures, I think! Plus I know I am gonna watch the moment my FH starts crying over and over lol.

There is such a huge range in photography! We are using one of our vendors preferred photographers. $1800 for an engagement shoot, 8 hours of coverage, 2 photographers and all the pictures. Their work is amazing and usually the package we have is over $3000 if you book for a different venue.
As for videography, we have the same thought. My sister has only watched hers once and she’s been married for almost 10 years. I watch wedding videos all day for inspiration, and they are all so beautiful, but for us that’s an add on that we don’t necessarily need

We are paying on the high end $7000; includes engagement photos, wedding photos with 10 hours of coverage, two photographers, all photos on a USB.

You definitely don't have to pay what we’re paying. We are using our venues preferred photographer and they produce stunning work so we knew we’d be on the high end.

i think videography depends. I didn’t personally want it, but my FH does. We got a great deal through my sisters friend . I’m not sure we would have had it otherwise but I’m excited we got it!

You've heard correctly lol. There really is a huge range though and I think it depends where you are. My photography package is 8hrs (he's tacking on an extra hour for us for free though), 2 photographers, engagement shoot, a flash drive with all our edited photos, 3 prints, and a photo album for $3500 plus tax, which is on the pricier end for our location. But I'm friends with the photographer's assistant and I know they do excellent work so I was willing to splurge there a bit.

At first I didn't care about videography either but after watching videos and seeing a lot of comments from couples who either regretted not having one or thought it was their best investment, we decided to go for it and found a pretty affordable one.
