Photographer not responding to emails

April, on January 27, 2020 at 10:14 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9

Hi!

I'm not sure what to do, its now been 10 days with a follow up email trying to get in contact with my wedding photographers to book our engagement photos. I have heard nothing from them. Is this acceptable? Should I be a little bit more lenient on them? I'm starting to have second thoughts about hiring them. They aren't particularly easy to get a hold of in general, but this is the longest they have not replied. What do I do!

So I finally got a response. Apparently the email address that we have been using to email back and forth for the last....4? months is their vendor confirmation email, so they allegedly did not see my email due to the high volume of vendor confirmations they get. So thats fine, at least we are in contact now. I booked my engagement session with them and now its taken a week for them to confirm and I am still waiting for a confirmation. I emailed them today asking if its a go or not because I need to book hair and makeup (i don't have the skills lol) and we booked for Feb 16, so thats a very busy weekend for hair and makeup I imagine. Im feeling rather stressed lol.

Yes, i have signed contract and paid deposit. I guess the email that we had been emailing back and forth on is an email they use for vendor confirmations so they didn't notice my email. but finally in touch with them

Have you signed any kind of service contract or given a deposit? Either way, I would question why they haven't gotten back to you in a timely manner.

I also would try calling them, since sometimes emails can get filtered into spam, or skipped accidentally.

If you can't reach anyone by phone, I'd leave a voicemail saying "If we can't get a hold of you by _ date, then we'll have to look elsewhere for photography". You can also say this in an email like Amelia suggested.

I would email them again with a reply deadline like "if I don't hear from you by January 31 we will be looking elsewhere". That way you have a clear outline of your expectations. Do they have a phone number? I would call and see if you can get a hold of them that way.
It also wouldn't hurt to start looking at other photographers while you wait, you might find one you like more!

I mean... this happened with our videographer - but turns out his wife gave birth and he was like MIA for a week or so. We of course weren't aware until he emailed us later so I wouldn't give up just yet - but if this photographer doesn't have a good reason like my videographer did... then I would skip them unless their price/quality is to die for.

Definitely not acceptable. I had the same issue with my cake vendor. Turned out she closed her store but moved to another facility but never responded to my emails or phone calls, so I just moved on and immediately started searching for a new one. Thankfully no deposits were put down!

I agree with Kelsie though, before you panic too much a phone call should be your next step. Then take that as it comes, but hopefully the phone call will be enough to fix your worry.

No this isn’t acceptable. I would call and leave a voicemail asking them to call you back. I find emails slip by vendors sometimes and a call usually fixes the problem.
