Photographer help

Ashley, on February 21, 2020 at 07:41 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 14
I am in between two photographers, they both have different styles and I love them both! It’s in our budget to book both BUT my worry is that there may be too many people as one comes with a second shooter and we have a videographer!

Any insight 😭 I don’t know how I’ll choose!!

Either or both choices can be made. You feel you will need both, go for it and have it so that your ceremony is being done while the other is with you for getting ready.

The choice of going with one making it your style that is preferred over the other will be as good to have 2 if each brings additional person making it 4 in total.

We just budgeted a lot for photography! I lost my dad when I was sixteen and have almost no pictures with him so pictures are extremely important to me 😊

Thanks everyone for the insight! Neither says anything against it in their contract so I reached out to them both to get some insight from their perspectives!

If you like both and both styles are different that’s tough. Honestly having a second shooter is great for capturing more candids ... but you also had video! Wow honestly any way you go I’m sure you’re day will be beautiful and documented amazingly!

Perhaps you can hire them for different events? Like one does the engagement and the other does the wedding.

I know in my contract I signed it stats you can’t hire another photographer. So I would look into that before you decide anything

I agree with Caitlyn - too many cooks in the kitchen. I would say to go with the one that comes with two photographers if you love both companies equally. That way you at least get to have multiple angles. I also agree with Amelia though, post their sites if you want some 3rd party opinions! Smiley tongue

I feel like two companies will get in each other's way. Plus you may end up having photographers in the background of important shots as they each try to capture the important moments.

I would make a pros and cons list for each and see which one has more pros.

Especially since one of the photographer's comes with a second shooter already I think hiring a second company as well may result in too many people working around one another in the same area, a "too many cooks in the kitchen spoils the broth" type of situation. A photographer and their second shooter are used to working together and would work more seamlessly then two photographers from two separate companies, especially if they have different styles. Also, as Sam mentioned, their contracts may prohibit you from hiring another company in addition to them anyway.

Are the two of you getting ready at different locations prior to the ceremony? If so then you can hire one to photograph you getting ready and the other to photograph FH getting ready. Then if you're having a first look you can have one photographer get from your point of view and the other from FH's point of view. If they're good at what they do then they can work together and know where to be to not be in the other's shot. The photographers I know are great at working in teams, so ask them first if that's something that both are ok with, because like Sam said some have it in their contract that you're not to hire others.

I know in the contract I signed with my photographer, is says we can't hire a 2nd company. I think this would be so they don't get in the way of eachother and that sort of thing.

So I'm not much help on how to make the decision, but check the contracts to make sure you can actually hire both if that's what you want to do!
