Photographer for Destination Wedding

Jessica, on September 16, 2019 at 14:50 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 6

I've got to get a photographer for a destination wedding (Mexico) - what is the normal "protocol" for payment? I offered just paying for the trip for a few photographers and they were ok with it (they couldn't make it work for travel) but what do most people do when hiring a photographer for a destination? Do you just pay for their trip OR pay for their trip and the cost of their service?

My cousin hired a photograpgher in the country she was getting married in. it was wayyy cheaper than paying for a trip for someone and hotel food etc.

Photographers protocol is their services, travel/room and meals are paid for by you when booked. Their contracts are based on what you get for the price and to cover their end too.

Booking tickets depend on how many days beforehand your travelling and if you wish to include the vendors the same day or a different day providing them the airline tickets.

The photographers that I've seen you pay for their photography package, along with airfare, accommodation (meals if they aren't already included). Typically, you only need the photographer for a few days, so you'll only need to provide 1 or 2 nights accommodation.

I mean for sure need a contract stating that their payment is you paying for the trip and accommodations - but that sounds like a good deal for them. I would still pass a couple hundred their way but other than that it sounds decent enough.

A lot of photographers sort of specialize in this, as per their websites. I would think you would cover travel, accommodation, likely at least some meals, plus whatever package they are providing you.

Hi Jessica, welcome to Wedding Wire!

Most professional photographers that I have seen have specified terms for travel photography. I believe most ask fro travel costs as well as their normal cost of services, but I would imagine this varies by photographer. If they don't indicate this as an option on their websites, I'd recommend reaching out to a few that peak your interest and see if they offer this, and what their terms are. Otherwise, many all inclusive resorts offer photography as part of their wedding packages (for a fee of course!).
