Paying for the wedding

Rachelle, on May 28, 2020 at 12:35 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 11

Hello everyone!

I have a question in regards to paying for the wedding. Personally we have already saved up most of the money for our wedding on August 28, 2021 (and my plan is to have everything saved) so that we do not go into any debt.

So far I have mostly used e-transfers while booking vendors. Since that point I have heard many times that you should pay with your credit card so that if something goes wrong with a vendor you have recourse through your bank.

Should I switch to using my credit card for everything (and then paying it off with the money I have saved) instead of e-transferring?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on the subject!

We didnt use our credit card at all. we negotiated most of our vendors for cash for a cheaper price however our payments arent due till our wedding. so we are saving for our wedding since we got engaged by throwing all of our money into a high interest savings/investments instead

Credit card is good to use as a security manner. Though I did do lots of e transfers for vendors since the purchases were made on the credit card for the major aspect. There weren't any issues with vendors of going e transferring money as I did get it returned the same way too.

My fiance and I are using credit card as much as we can. We're getting married in a different province then where we are living so it's been super useful that way. Most of our vendors and our venue are great with credit card payments. I believe only one or two of my vendors are through etranfers but I've kept all of my paperwork for just in case.

Try to use a credit card whenever you can. If your vendor doesn't have credit card payments available (small businesses who doesn't want to pay merchant fees), ask if they have any type of e-commerce payment method like PayPal or Stripe. If not, ask for an invoice with full contact details (legal name of business or person, address, phone number). And if they're not a registered business, they cannot collect tax.

I'm a huge proponent of cash flow. It's great that you have savings but if something were to disrupt your plan - like unemployment during a pandemic - and you need cash, that money in the bank can help you through difficult times.

I would use your credit card for sure.

We etransferred with one vendor (our cake lady) and we trust her completely but we had a cash deal on our original invitations and the lady suddenly died...it took us SO LONG to get our money back.

So now we've used our credit cards for everything - no more cash or etransfer.

What Caitlyn said. If you collect points etc it’s great to use your visa, get your points and pay your visa ASAP Smiley smile

I would suggest using your credit card to pay because as you mentioned, the credit card company can help you get your money back if there’s an issue with a vendor. Also, if you have a credit card that gives you cash back points or air miles or something you get a bunch of points on your wedding purchases
