Partial catering.

If I supply a pig and seafood would a caterer cut the cost and be willing to cook the seafood and the sides/desserts?

I could totally be a pescetarian. Especially if I lived in the Dominican. Sooo good. But I do love wild game as well as turkey.

HAHA no no nothing like that! I eat meat all the time in front of him. It's a long story but when he was a teen he had BAD ache and stopped eatting meat for 2 weeks and found it completely cleared up. So he just stopped eating meat but eats fish so that he's still getting proper vitamins and nutrients and junk. If he was all concerned about animals feelings we would not be getting married (since I love meat!)

Lord in heaven! So fish and seafood don't have feelings? Lol If your FH saw where most of the seafood we consume comes from, he'd be a carnevor!! Lol

HAHA FH is actually the one that's pescatarian, so I know it well. It's just pretty much vegetarian but with fish and seafood (so no beef, poultry or pork)

Most caterers are pretty good about accommodating dietary restrictions now a days. We have vegans, gluten free, pescatarians and vegetarians in the mix at our wedding and although I'm only allowed to pick 1 main dish for our guests, I just let them know the people with dietary restrictions and they have some options for them!
The other thing to remember about potluck is that someone needs to serve it and make sure things are full, which is a lot of work when you really just want to be able to relax and enjoy yourself. I know when I host simple game nights at my house with 10 guests I often forget/don't have time to eat because I'm busy making sure my guests are taken care of. You're getting so much more than just food from a caterer

Well a potluck may not be a bad idea if so many have food restrictions. You could always ask those with the restrictions to make something (if they are family and friends) this way they feel comfortable there is something they can eat and it helps you out too!!! And may just go with a cake artist or Baker to cater a dessert table. Cake , gourmet doughnuts etc.

Yes half of my family are huge seafood fans. Including myself. Most Likely it would be black cod and some other fish. My dad gets it directly from a commercial fisherman already vacuum sealed. I've been spoilt because fish everywhere else just isn't the same. My mom knows some caterers and is a holistic nutrionist so maybe someone out there would be ok with it. I totally understand signing the waiver. There are so many dietary needs of my family members that there will have to be gluten free as well as vegan options. I would totally go straight caterer but my fiancé wants a potluck lol. So I'm trying to meet half way some how.

Hi Tina! Smiley heart I think that's an amazing idea to cut down on cost. It will really depend on the caterer you hire. You should check out the ones in our directory and ask them for more information: Wedding Catering Langley

Have you though about your wedding cake? Do you have an designs or flavours in mind? Smiley love

I agree with Lisa, I very much doubt a good cater will agree to that (even with a waiver) because it is such a huge liability for them if someone gets sick. Especially with seafood. It's hard when you see how much money it is but a good amount of that cost is to pay the workers for their time preparing, cooking, maintaining and serving the food.

Still might work. You just have to declare that to the caterer. And if you are doing it outside you have to be really careful with the seafood! My cultural background is huge on seafood at weddings but I opted against it for fear of people getting sick. So many allergies now a days too! Caterer still might make you sign a waiver but check it out. You never know! I know our hall making is sign one because there are extra desserts I want to add, and the hall said it had to be from a bakery, not homemade, and I have to sign a waiver!!!!

That's what I had thought. We have someone who wants to roast a pig for us and I was hoping my parents would do the seafood and then have everything else catered.

You would have to talk to the caterer directly. Many of them don't do that because of Liability. If they prepare something you provided them with, and someone gets sick form a food borne illness, they will not want to assume responsibility because they didn't purchase the food. To too much of a risk.
