Paperless Invitations? Yay or nay?

Keri, on June 9, 2019 at 15:43 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 16
Hey everyone! My partner & I have been thinking that we’ll do our invites paperless - both to save $$ & waste. And really, do guests honestly care/keep them??

I’ve created a draft through Paperless Post that I’m liking, but wanted to get some feedback from ppl that have gone/are going this route or have been guests with ppl that have done this.

Appreciate any feedback! 🌸

We did paper save the dates and eVites for the wedding invitation. Everyone had very positive things to say and no one (even FH's 87 year old aunt) had any issues with the RSVP or meal selection. I'm very happy we made this choice, but each couple had their own preferences. Smiley smile

Thanks Vinod! I think so too. More modern, easy to access info & fun things/updates like you said. I know that everyone has their own preference, but I’m really thinking this is the right way for us to go! 😊

Its a great idea where your guests can visit the website and see all the information and your pictures of engagement/candid. Even for birthdays and other events, its being done. I would go this route.

Your correct in saying that guests don't keep invites after the wedding is done and easy to lose in a pile.

I LOVE this!! I’m going to look into this company too, as the sustainability is a big part of it for us too, so having trees planted as well seems like such an incredible bonus! Thanks so much for sharing.🌲 I really do agree that most guests don’t keep invites & will be able to navigate this very easily too. At the end of the day, we really have to go with what makes the most sense for us!

That is what we are doing! We are using greenvelope because their guest tracking system is pretty dialed and a % of the fee goes towards planting trees Smiley smile But same concept as paperless post! For me its the sustainability factor and saving some $$ on something that MOST guests will not keep around. I agree with printing out a few for keepsakes.

Totally! Haha 🤣 I do like the idea of magnet save the dates & a wedding website for RSVP/info etc! I’ve also wondered about postcard save the dates & paperless invites or wedding website. And I have considered having a few invites printed for photos/keepsakes too. I like that.

Some great ideas & feedback though! I really appreciate all of this, everyone!! 👏

I am still torn about this but I think we decided to do magnets for save the date and then just have our wedding website on it where people can get updates and can RSVP straight there. I am a person who always throws them out and/or forget about them. For example, I just had a wedding this weekend and I didnt bring the card with me so I had no clue where the church was! I had to txt around people to get me a pic of the card or if they knew when I wished I just had an email with the info or a website I could pop into and look. I think it also really depends on your guestlist. Most of our wedding are young people so I think that this route makes more sense and I know they would for sure throw it out. Also it depends what kind of invitation you want. Personally if i was doing them i would want the fanciest possible with all of the envelopes, etc etc which i have gotten quotes of 8-10 per invitation so thats was a big no lol. But having a few physicals are important especially for keepsake or pictures!

Vista Print DOES have some great deals at times! Nice job snagging one! This may be something that could work for us too (especially if I find a 50% off or more deal!), something to consider. Thanks!

Thanks Bianca. I hear what you’re saying. Weddings are ridiculously expensive! Just seeing what makes sense & put money where we care more (venue, amazing food, wine) about. I definitely do love paper invites too (and am the kind of person that prefers actual books to Kindles) but am still leaning towards online. We’ll see... this is all helpful though! 😊

I personally like having a physical invitation. I think there’s something special about it that people can hold onto. However, if you’re looking to save money, this really is a good place to start.

It’s always great to save money where you can. Depending on the size of your guest list it would for sure be more cost effective to do online instead of paying for invites and postage.
We are doing paper invites as we do not have a huge guest list, and honestly I got an amazing deal on Vistaprint. For people who are not tech savvy you may want to have someone help them out for give them a paper invite.
We also have the thank you cards from the last 2 weddings we went to on our fridge and we have kept the invites because they were close family.

I’m not doing electronic invites only because some guests are not tech savvy. Even my parents would be really really confused by it.

i think some guests also really like having a physical invite!

Thanks so much, Tori! We were also considering having a few printed for the non-tech savvy older relatives & for our parents as a keepsake.

Only thing that I've seen be a problem is when you have older or not as tech-savvy of guests - they will be needing a physical invite. Still, having a few made over a couple hundred is a lot easier.

That, and just putting it out there - I still have my FH's cousin's wedding thank you on the fridge and they got married September 2018... 1 year is the length of time we usually keep it up so that we remember to say congrats on their first anniversary.
