Outdoor vs Indoor!

Shla, on July 19, 2018 at 14:39 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 12
We are considering hosting our wedding on my parents hobby farm as we are wanting to spend very little on it. It would be all outside at this place.

I was wondering what you lovely ladies and gentlemen have done to make your outdoor weddings a success? I am TERRIFIED about bad weather as we wouldn't have a solid backup plan and we have chosen Friday September 13th 2019 as our date.

Any suggestions? Reasons why you choose an outside wedding? Reasons why you didn't? Help me out with some pros and cons, guys!

We had our wedding at a family property that is like a farm. We got married September 30th, outdoors and it was wonderful. We were lucky and had great weather during the day though it did get a little chilly in the evening. We had a barn for our reception so that was our backup plan. I think you could rent a nice marquee tent for your reception if you think it might have bad weather. It would also offer a shaded area if you are having a day time wedding.

I chose to have my wedding reception at my uncle's golf course. He has a tent, so it will be covered for sure, but if the weather is nice (fingers crossed!) then the sides can be removed so that it feels more open. I'm far too terrified of the weather being awful to risk doing it not under the tent.

That said, my ceremony will be completely outside and uncovered. I do have a backup plan if necessary, but I'm hoping I won't have to use it!

Mine is fully outdoors, but it is end of june so we have tents rented. They're not cheap but will literally make or break my wedding day! Rain is always a possibility so I do not recommend just hoping for the best on it or you could really end up regretting it!

We're doing an outdoor ceremony on August 4, 2019 because I always invisioned my wedding day outside. It wasn't fesible to have the reception outdoors too, but definitely love being close to nature Smiley smile

We are doing our wedding in my parents backyard as they have a lovely garden and it is quite spacious. It’s also surrounded by trees so is a very private!. We have also picked a date where there is least likely to have rain ( August 4th- no guarantee though!)
Our wedding is more intimate ( 50people) and even though it is a backyard wedding, we are still paying alot! We rented a tent, chairs all of the cutlery, tables, plates, etc.
Ive been worried about rain too but we have a tent and space inside the house if needed!
we will see how it goes in 15 days Smiley smile
If the setting is something you want, you should go for it! Originally I thought I’d have a fancy hotel hall but imagining a beautiful garden wedding was perfect! We definitely saved some costs but it’s still expensive with everything ( photographer, caterer, DJ)

We were set at the waterfront view outdoors setting at a conference center. The location had a beautiful overlook of the lake along with the natures green surrounding us.

Summer opted us to choose what was given to enjoy the wheather and sunshine. Indoors was a back up in case of rain. Set up was amd break down was taken care by the venue itself too.

What you can do is find an event company in your area that rents out large tents. You can use it regardless of rain or shine. You can also get customized umbrellas as your wedding favors (again useful rain or shine). Seen a lot of rainy day wedding pictures with umbrellas incorporated and they still look amazing. Or you can recommend people bring their own umbrellas in case of rain. You should definitely have a back up plan though!

I am planning a backyard wedding-mostly because its cheaper(for us) and more our style.

My parents have a pretty good sized lot, and are fortunate enough to have someone my dad works with able to lend us chairs/tables. and we are just having BBQ style food. We are spending about $4000 but if we were paying for chairs, and actually catering+bartending (instead of serve your self drinks) it would probably be about the same as a venue.

If you do decide to do it outside don't forget about bathrooms!!!! defiantly look into renting a couple porta-potty's

Originally, I was thinking to have a backyard wedding. Then like Jennifer said, after calculating the decor, tent, chairs, dance floors and foods, I also found renting a hall which also has the package of foods, decor, cake and DJ is much cheaper. Besides, we could have our ceremony outside in a park at the back of the hall. The package will also included the outdoor ceremony set up.

Additional consideration is, by renting hall, after the reception, you could just walk away and start enjoying your wedding life. If it's in the barn, you have to go back the next day for the cleaning or you have to pay someone to do it.

Although I am having an outdoor wedding we will be eating inside a pavilion that has the ability to close the windows in case of rain/wind. We chose outdoor because we are outdoors-y type of people lol. That and the pictures that you see of the ceremony are way nicer than any venue we can afford! If we were to go to a hall that we can afford we would need tooooonnnnsss of decor to make it look nice where as the fall colours are all we need and that is free (with the venue of course)! If I was in your shoes I would do what Jennifer said and get a couple quotes for some tents and compare it to some venues as you really should have a back up in case of rain. You may even be able to have an agreement (haggle a little) to only put a little more than a down payment down on the tent as a backup and only pay the full price if you end up deciding day of/ week of that you will be wanting it as the weather forecast will be more accurate closer to the date. Either way - I HIGHLY recommend having a backup in place as it would just kill you if it did end up raining and you had nowhere to have the wedding! Better safe than sorry!

Same Day!!!!! Friday the 13th Smiley laugh

We picked it because the venue we wanted was available. We are also outdoors, albeit under a lovely tent.

I'm sorry I don't have advise, I'm just super jazzed we share the same date!

I debated about doing the outdoor wedding at a family members farm. but I wanted a tent set up (so that way no weather to worry about, could put fans in there). I looked into the cost of renting the tent, chairs, tables, dance floor and chose no fee for tables/chairs (we would set up on our own). and it was pricey. Granted I was getting a quote based on 200 people. so when I priced out local halls/catering. it ended up being about $5K cheaper overall to go with a hall.

I think if we had a lot less people. it could have definitely been doable.
