Opinion on window for engagement photos

BunnyBride, on April 30, 2018 at 08:25 Posted in Before the wedding 0 11
Hi all,
My fiance and I have been engaged for about a year but didn't start any planning until a couple months ago (he got a different position at work which meant moving across province, selling a house, and I got a new job...we didn't want to layer that with wedding planning). Right after we got engaged, we both wanted to do engagement photos for us. They were never going to be used for STD or anything like that, and agreed it would be a good trial run for a photographer for the wedding. Two birds, one stone. He was the one leading the planning for it with suggestions on locations, etc.
Now that we actually have the time to possibly arrange them and starting planning, my FH says "it's too late to have them done". Sure, we have been engaged for a year so it seems a bit late but our wedding isn't until August 2020. Engagement is not even at the halfway point and the trial run point still stands too. I am unreasonable for still wanting to get them done for us? Is there an official window you have to do them in?

We waited over a year for our pics and had them done 6 mos prior. All the kissing and canoodling made us fall in love all over againSmiley smile It was a great trial run for us to feel comfy with our photog and understand his cues etc. to make our wedding shots that much better.

You’re definitely not unreasonable! My FH and I have been engaged for almost 2.5 years and I still want to have them done but he is also saying we’ve waited too long. I think maybe if you wait closer to the wedding date and then you can explain that it’s really important to you and it’s also a trial for having a photographer he will understand more.

It's not too late! We haven't had ours done yet and we are getting married in 2 months! We wanted to wait until the weather got nicer (I didn't want winter engagement photos, and this year our winter was from October to April!) We are aiming to get them done this month, but it might not happen until June.

Until the wedding is over it is literally never too late to take engagement photos. The only time factor to consider is when you need the photos back by if you plan to use them in your STDs, invitations, or displayed at your wedding. Since you mentioned you don't plan to use them for these things then you can absolutely take engagement pictures any time between now and your wedding!

No window time for engagement pictures limit. You should feel comfortable getting it done anytime since there is lots of time before the wedding day.

There's no window as far as I know - you might not have the newly engaged feeling but I don't think that matters at all! They'll still be so nice to have!

I don't think there's a specific window! They are great photos to have, and it's an excellent way to have a trial run with your photographer! It's all perspective too, if you're having a 3 year engagement... photos a year in is the equivalent of someone with 1 year engagement waiting 4 months... I'm having a 13 month engagement and it will be almost 6 months in by the time we do our engagement session!

There is no official time frame for engagement photos. I would still get them done and test a photographer in the process.

I don't think there is a specific day. There are lots of people who get them done long after they get engaged. We used ours for save the dates, but we also put a few photos around the room of the reception. Having a trial run with your photographer is perfect. We got a better understanding as well of which way our photographer liked to pose us, in addition to him getting a feel for us, since we are pretty goofy.

We got engaged of October 2016 and didn't have our photos done until the following year. There is no official window lol tell him to stop being silly. Get those photos done!
