Online or Paper Invites?

Gabrielle, on August 29, 2018 at 10:47 Posted in Before the wedding 0 19

My mother has been nagging me to do paper invites for all my guests. I was ready to compromise and send paper invites to all, and then do online RSVP (for the younger crowd) and still have response card for the older guests. We find it so useless to pay for postage on response cards when people can just go online and all the info will be there!

Any advice would really help!

Paper Invites, People are more likely to accept traditional invitations. But, if someone is far away and inconvenient, you can also take online.Smiley sexy

We are doing paper invites and online RSVPs. We wanted everyoneto have a keepsake copy of the invitation but didnt 2ant to bother with paying for extra postage or have them have to worry about it. We are in the age of technology so we might as well take advantage of it!

I did exactly that. Paper invites and online responses. It's been fine because for the older guests the want that invite but I've just taken their RSVP over the phone. But a lot of people surprisingly have been using the email to respond. Even my fiancé's grandpa! I'd say don't stress about this part too much. My planner even told me even though you send the invites with instructions and a deadline you will still be calling people and chasing down RSVP's. My deadline is September 1st and I have less than 50% RSVP's. Another reason for not doing the mailed back RSVP is you can't provide a stamp for any invites sent to the US or any where else so those people would have to provide their own stamp. Pretty much all of my fiancé's family is on the US and I wasn't willing to ask them to pay for a stamp to send a little RSVP card back.

We did paper invites and online RSVP, it worked perfectly. The few people who didn't have access to internet (mostly our grandparents) answered by phone or asked a family member to do it for them.

It also allowed us to easily collect menu choices, see who hadn't answered yet and assign tables. And since we used a website, we could also add a link to our registry (with a little message saying that gifts weren't necessary and that we already had almost everything we needed).

For us we did online invites and rsvps his PaperlessPost. We did however get printed invites for a few older people who do not use email and also had some printed to have as keepsakes for ourselves, our parents and a few others. This was the best of both worlds. Not sure if you’ve looked into paperless
post but some of their options actually offer the invite in print that you can purchase. We used a photo for our invite so I exported it and had it printed using vista print and they turned out great.

    VISTAPRINT!

I did NOT want to spend any sort of large amount on invitations. I waited for their semi-annual 50% off sale, and I got 70 invitations (w envelopes), 70 details inserts (w envelopes), and 10 RSVP cards (w envelopes)... (we are doing E-RSVPs as well, minus a couple older guests)... taxes in, with shipping, for $80.

    We love them.

If you sign up for their e-mails, they'll tell you when they have a 30, 40 or 50% sale on.

Online invites are as good as paper. Different generations and ways of responding change on how the RSVP are sent.

We had paper invites with email RSVP or they called personally to let me know.

We'll be doing paper invites, I found a really nice one on Etsy that I'll be printing via vistaprint, and RSVPs online. I've built a website via wix.com (hasn't been launched yet!) and will embed RSVPify in that website, since the service has more options for the RSVP form (and for a very low cost for a full year!). The website will include all of the links and details to the venue and hotel room blocks!

We did evites through Paperless Post. Smiley smile We are doing a wedding disguised as an engagement party, so it is a bit more casual. But I like the idea of less paper waste, etc. Most people just throw them out anyway and they get expensive!

We are doing physical invites. with online rsvp (even for the older guests...the 3-5 that would struggle have other family members invited that will help. or they can just call me). I want paper invites because I personally feel email invites are tacky.

with our invites. the invitation will give ceremony and reception details all on one card (probably 5x7). then I am doing to have a smaller card that says rsvp to this site. and all wedding information is on our wedding website.

so many weddings I've been to in the past 5 years have done it this way. its a good way to save money. and you can get beautiful/affordable invites at vistaprint. why spend more than necessary.

We did online invitations and RSVP. It was so convenient! We had everyone's e-mail, but not a lot of addresses, so saved time that way. We did have a few people who just emailed their RSVP instead of going to the website (even though there was a link on the evite that went right to the spot!) but, everyone did RSVP.

I think paper is still nice for the older people, and those who aren't very tech-savvy. But, we decided on evites because it was cheaper, most people throw out the invitations anyway, and less time needed to spent on designing/sending them.

I am doing online invites only because I want to go green! Even with my wedding favours (soaps), we're doing them bare so no paper is wasted for the packaging. Most people end up misplacing their printed invitations anyways and go online to check the information so I feel that it is not worth spending the money on it. For the older crowd, I just told them in person and ask them to confirm verbally because I think that it is more personal and they prefer the face to face communication.

I will be sending out emails for save the dates, then paper invitations, but for the RSVP's they will have to either call me or RSVP on our wedding website. It seems to be pretty common for RSVP's nowadays (my FH's cousin's wedding is this fall and they did paper invites and RSVP's were done over the phone).

That's how we are doing it! Mailing invitation and they can RSVP online. It's easier for us and them plus I agree with the point you made about postage.

As far as invitations go, a lot of people use vista print and seem really happy with them. I know you can get a 50% off sale sometimes too. I got a box set from Michaels and printed them from home. I had a 50% off coupon so it was like $18 for 30 invitations.

I think it’s totally fine to do it online for everyone except the older crowd! I think that’s what most people end up doing! We spent almost $100 on postage to mail invites and put postage on response cards. That’s only with 30 invitations! It’s crazy! (My invitations were heavier so they needed two stamps each) we aren’t doing a wedding website for personal reasons, but I do think it’s a good idea to have one and let people RSVP that way!
