Officiant

Jennifer, on June 22, 2020 at 12:43 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 14

So, as I was going through my list of things to do, came across our officiant. Now I know normally people would feed the photographer, is this the same when it comes to the officiant? OR any one else that I may be leaving out..

If theyre staying for the reception feed them but if not no. our officiant is just our church ceremony which is an hour long so he wont be staying or coming with us or anything.

That is a good idea, I am a person like that. Plus we are saving on our DJ, as my fiance's sister will be taking care of that for us!

Just to add, with our officiant's last name, she just might be related in some way to my fiance.

    Thanks!

You can invite the Officiant to stay for dinner and pay for him as he is a vendor. Vendors do generally state a meal is provided by you. Its the same for us who got married to add on for them. Go for the main course for them as you don't have to do the whole plated service amount adding on your budget.

I would check with your officiant. They do usually leave right after the ceremony.

Ahh yes, especially as a lot of people have pushed their weddings into next year as well.

    Thank you!

Only if your officiant is also a guest at the reception and not just someone working the ceremony. My officiant is strictly a vendor and not staying for the reception so we're not feeding him. He's likely running off to conduct another wedding somewhere as every officiant I've spoken to during our search stressed the importance of starting on time as they cannot overstay their scheduled time.

When looking up DJ's some were asking for hotel accommodations, food and travel fees. My Fiance's sister knows the DJ, and is able to get his equipment for our day! Smiley smile Which to us is a 2 for one, she was already going to attend!

I actually never thought of it that way, also thank you for the suggestion of the thank you and gift.

That is good that you have some one you personally know, you are able to share your day with them as well!

I checked with a coworker who is an officiant who says they are sometimes offered to stay and eat but they don't because it's a room full of strangers and they feel it would be awkward. So they leave after their job is done. I would potentially give them a thank you card and gift on top of their fee.

Our officiant is a close work friend so if we were having a reception after our ceremony I would want her there. I plan to invite her to our reception next year as a guest and not as a service provider.

I think it depends. Our officiant advised us she does not expect an invitation to dinner as she knows how pricey it can be and also noted she’d prefer to go home for dinner with her own family. I think it depends too- are you having a minister who is close with you and your family? Maybe talk with your officiant but I don’t think it’s needed

My officiant didn't say anything about food however our DJ does state in the contract that we are to provide a meal if services are over 4 hours or something like that so we are providing the DJ and photographer a meal. Im sure vendors will tell you in advance, all of mine have so far.

No I don't think so - the officiant typically leaves right after the ceremony and there is no obligation to provide a meal for them. The only other vendors would be DJ, videographer and if you have a planner/day of coordinator that the venue isn't providing.
