October 2021 vs December 2021

Maria, on November 18, 2020 at 00:10 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 16
Hello everyone,

I am in the process of postponing my March 27, 2021 wedding. I have been offered a couple days by the venue, but I can’t decide.
October 9, 2021December 4, 2021
My thoughts...If we get a vaccine early 2021, it will only help if enough people choose to get vaccinated and if there are enough vaccines for everyone. Otherwise, I’m afraid 2021 will look similar to 2020. If that is the case I think October might be best, as the weather will be warmer and hopefully less cases.
On the other hand, if the vaccine gets released and has a huge impact on this pandemic, December might be best as it will give the vaccine more time to do it’s magic.
Help! Please vote on a day

I am not going to keep arguing this, But there is a doctor on there... However, for privacy reasons and my job I am unable to name him.

Oh, don't get me wrong - I'm all about safety measures. I'm not complaining that we shouldn't have these restrictions during this time. But the decision making is NOT coming from doctors and the medical community. There is not a single doctor on the health command table driving the decision making process. Instead, it's all politicians, bureaucrats, and corporate higher ups. The Premier is citing how the CEO of Walmart is going to hurt if we have bigger restrictions!

Anyway, I've derailed this thread enough.

In case you missed it earlier, Maria, I say go with December because it matches your original plans more closely Smiley smile

Even if they keep changing it, if you talk to a doctor they don't know what to do or how to contain it.

I understand that it is hard to keep up on all of it and it is frustrating! But I am actually glad for the boundaries... my family is in the states where they have NOT A SINGLE RULE and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM NOW HAS COVID!!!! my dad is from a family of 15 children, I have almost 60 first cousins just on my dads side and EVERY ONE OF THEM HAS COVID AND ARE CONTINUING TO VISIT OTHER FAMILIES, GO TO WORK, GO TO SCHOOL AND SPREAD IT!!!! I am just so sick of their "thing" about you can't stop me and I can spread it to whoever I want cuz they can't make me stay home.

Even though there should be more set boundaries that make sense that aren't constantly changing, at least we have something so that hopefully we can keep it contained. All of us have older family members or members that are more susceptible to the virus somewhere and we have to do our part to keep them safe and healthy.

Even if we don't have family members, your friends do and if one of their members get sick, then they will be affected by it.

Honestly, no one knows what to do, who to believe, or who to trust, ( I don't really trust anyone) Since when did anyone think this was going to happen?

I quit my rant, but after having friends who have died from it, family with it, friends in the hospital with it. I don't know what to do.

I wish I share your belief that the government is actually trying but I just cant. Not after everything that has come to light: Chief Medical Officer not on the health command table; health command table has no actual doctors, only politicians and lobbyists; Premier changing the numbers in the guidelines to suit his own agenda; lying about consultations regarding back to school; not having a lock down plan when presenting a plan that includes lock downs; the list goes on.

I would strongly recommend DO NOT WAIT for a vaccine!! there weren't even enough flu shots to give all the seniors and Health Care workers neverminded the public.

I think the reason that they cant decide on what to do is because it keeps changing.

I work in health care and honestly there is no rhyme or reason to what and how and why. Honestly, we're just trying to find out how to keep everyone safe, and the problem is we honestly don't know how to do it! I get emails EVERY SINGLE DAY that say something DIFFERENT and to be honest every day I feel more and more confused and more and more upset with our medical officer@

I agree it is extremely frustrating, but even if our area goes into lockdown, we can have a "drive-in" ceremony and we are not postponing the wedding any longer.

Yeah, we try to be positive and encouraging here but once in a while, something pops up that just makes you go "whyyyyyy..." lol BUT I will say, I think our community has been much more chill on the freaking out over safety measures than our southern neighbours.

I hope you are able to make your weekend work next week.

PS Let's not leave out Quebec in the list of government screw ups Smiley laugh

I will say re: outdoor photos - In October, you risk it raining and if it does, you pretty much can't be outside. But with snow, unless it's a blizzard, you can still be outside (though you'll need a warming up plan, like wearing warmers or run in and out of the venue constantly to not freeze). Even if snow gets on you, it's wet but it's not a soaking kind of wet (if that makes any kind of sense).

Yeah it's been really frustrating reading about how all of the provinces are handling things differently and some so much worse than others - Ontario and Alberta were the ones I was referring to haha. Overall I think we've had a good approach in BC and our government seems to be letting public health do their job, but now we're seeing a big surge in cases and it seems like people just aren't taking restrictions seriously.

I'm pretty salty about all of it at the moment because I know the increase in cases right now is partially due to weddings and related events that occurred in the late summer and early fall. Now my partner and I are on to our worst case scenario plan and we can't even have our very tiny 12 person ceremony and 8 person dinner next weekend because people were selfish and had unsafe weddings and parties. I feel like you and I had very similar reactions every time someone posted that email about dancing at weddings Smiley atonished

But at some point I think the federal government will have to step in if the provinces can't get their act together so I do think there's light at the end of the tunnel. It'll just be a very hard winter.

Last year when I was seeing all the winter weddings I was a little mad at myself that I hadn't considered a winter wedding! They can be really beautiful.

That being said if you want outdoor photos go with October. The weather is a bit more reliable and the colors are gorgeous. We had an outdoor ceremony on October 2nd and I wasn't cold at all (that may have been nerves, I think the wedding party was a tad chilly). We had a rain plan that thankfully wasn't needed.
If you're waiting on a vaccine you could be waiting a while. If you really want to be sure of a vaccine I would look into 2022 dates.

Yeah, OUR government. Hence I feel zero optimism for anything good in Ontario lol. When the Chief Medical Officer was asked what a lock down would entails, he responded with hypothetical rhetorical questions, then said "we need to figure out what that looks like." THEY HAD EIGHT MONTHS TO FIGURE IT OUT!!!

When his main message for Thanksgiving was make sure the turkey is cooked and makes press statements about how he thinks all of Ontario can be in the Green Zone for Christmas, all the while the government themselves flout the rules and sends people emails that are contradictory to the rules (like that "you're allowed to dance in your social circle at weddings" message that I've been loathing for months), I have no hope for anything good in the immediate future lol.

I do agree with Hank of December if March being the month that does seem similar of temperature and being indoors and original date.

October is somewhat warmer to cooler setting if you like the fall season. It does work the same if you make this your date too.

If you had it in October would you be able to be outside? If not I would push it to December. 2 months is a long time and could be the time needed to get more of your guests vaccinated.
I don’t think we’ll be in the same situation we are now this time next year. We will have had so much more time to understand the virus and restrictions should be easing up with people becoming vaccination. I could also see regular 2 week circuit breaker “lockdowns” being a thing every few months after what happened this fall if a vaccine isn’t available to everyone at that time. That being said certain governments in the country have been doing weird things and basically ignoring doctors and scientists so who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

If mass vaccination is what you're waiting for, then I honestly think it makes no difference. If the country is lucky enough to get dosed at all, it'll just be the most vulnerable who gets it. Most vaccine developers don't expect the general population to get one until at least 2022.

The choice between two dates ultimately comes down to aesthetics. Since you're originally in March, a December wedding would likely match the vibe you were originally going for.
