Not sure how to go about planning/throwing a wedding of my liking.

Jenna, on December 28, 2019 at 20:08 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7
For my wedding day I never imagined going the “typical” route. I’m not a big fan being the centre of attention and the typical wedding day doesn’t seem like something my fiancé and I would enjoy. Ideally, my perfect day would be having a ceremony outdoors in the Banff/Canmore area with the mountains and beautiful scenery, minimal decor and around 30 of our close family & friends. Having this done in a cabin-y lodge type of resort/hotel would be my choice, or in a perfect world we would have a set of cabins to rent out and instead of a typical reception/dance we would do a big family style dinner cookout and spend the evening in a camping type of feel, having a fire, s’mores and playing some games. I’m not interested in having a dance or some big party atmosphere. But I’m so unsure how to go about planning this !

You could rent a BIG cottage by the water and do your ceremony outside and do a backyard reception, bbq type of thing.

Keep it simple and sweet with no grand entrance as you sit with all your guests at the same time and have a sweetheart table since i you two won't be sitting there the whole evening. Only for speeches, dinner and toasts. This is your day and however you two like it, do it.

It's your wedding you can have it be any way you want. We are doing tacos, everything is black,no booze,no dancing, just wholesome family time. My fiance has autism and hates being the center of attention so I tried to limit it as much as i could. There will be music in the background but that's really it. Far from traditional

I just found this place and thought I would pass it on. It might fit what you are looking for.

Have you looked on airbnb for a venue? Some permit events. That might be a place to start. You would likely need to bring a lot in for an atypical venue like that, but I would think it wouldn't be too difficult for a smaller wedding.

Yeah for sure more things to figure out once I get an idea of the full picture and how many guests. Not a ton of options in these areas, or what I’ve seen so far has been way over what I’m comfortable spending. But fingers crossed !

I think you're on the right path! Knowing what you want and don't want is a big part of the first steps.

It sounds like a fun night, and definitely not a traditional wedding.
I would think you might need to figure out who is feeding everyone, for example catered, food trucks, or helpful friends and family?
