Not doing a Father/daughter dance, any other ideas to honour my dad?

Gillian, on November 27, 2019 at 20:22 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7

Hi all,

We decided not to do dances because my fiance has his mom as well as a step mom who he's very close with, and I'm not too close with my dad, so we figured to make it easy/fair we wouldn't do dances. But I still would like to honour him in some way and make him feel special. He will be walking me down the aisle, so there's that, but when I mentioned we weren't doing traditional dances he was quite disappointed. Any ideas? What did you do to honour your dad or mom if you didn't do a special dance?

There are few ways that I have seen done that are memorable:

    1. Place a locket sized framed picture on a chain around the bouquet you have for the aisle walk.

    2. You both light a candle in front of a large framed picture to make his memory present.

    3. Mention him in your speech at reception.

You could have them do speeches or mention them specifically in your speeches?

Pins are a cute idea too! I think the problem is neither of us are very interested in the idea of dancing with our parents in the first place, at least not alone on the dance floor in front of everyone, lol.

That’s a great idea! Maybe I’ll have him pick out a few songs so he knows ahead of time that’s when he can get his dance

What about having your FH do a Mother/Son dance with both his Mom's? That is what I would suggest.

If dances are completely out of the question though, maybe you could get the parents some big pins that say "Father of the Bride" and "Mother of the Groom" like these:

I'm not having a scheduled father daughter dance but I'm putting a few of my dad's favorites on the list so he can cut in and steal a dance if he wants to. That way everyone can keep dancing and if my fh's mom wants a dance she can jump in too!
