Non traditional wedding dress

Chey Marie, on February 5, 2019 at 17:59 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 20
The fiance and I really aren't keen on the idea of traditional wedding gowns. I would like to be in a dark colored dress but still formal to the wedding style. Has anyone got expirence or tips for me regarding this ? Another thing I'm stumped on is what color to have my bridal girls.

If you're wearing a dark colour (which I think would be awesome), maybe consider having the bridesmaids in a lighter shade of the same colour? My friend was just a bridesmaid and wore grey, it was really beautiful and elegant.

Well depending on the colours. i saw that you were going with black, same as me along with the same month.

I am considering my dress to be black, but my colours are black, gold, silver/grey. Depending if i do go with black or not my bridesmaids will be either black with gold belts or grey with black belts.

Mine is not going to be dark colours but it's not going to be just white either. The top is going to be white and the bottom with be a gradient of 3 or 4 different colours. I like non traditional wedding dresses.

I really love the first one. Has a hint of white to say I'm the lady of the hour but still dark and not so white.

I wore black the first time around. Honestly I found my dress in the bridesmaids section! It was gorgeous and very formal.

It doesn't have to be black! But I kind of like the idea of having colored lace over a white dress! I'm still tempted, but I might just go with a very pale colored lace over white (the kind of pale where of there was no white beside it, you'd almost think it's white) but we'll see! I still got plenty of time! Also, don't hesitate to write to bridal shops and ask them if they only sell white... Most shops tend to have some colored gowns since in India, white is for funerals. Don't lose hope! You'll find something!

I loooooove black dresses, grey dresses, and deep jewel tone dresses! For sure choose yours first and then choose the rest of the wedding party - maybe they could be in a different shade of whatever you pick.

For your gown you could look at bridesmaids dresses, some mother of the bride/groom dresses are really gorgeous, and of course prom, pageant, and NYE-type dresses are all going to be great options for you to check out.

Our wedding is planned for October so I'm hoping the dark colors well contrast nicely with the natural seasonal colors. FH wants a purple and maybe some silver incorporated into the color scheme. So my bridesmaids may be in those colors. But I'm keen on the idea u all are saying. To get the BM dresses after mine.

I personally love the look of black wedding dresses and if I had to get married in the winter, I would do a black dress for contrast against the snow.

I would also pick your dress colour before your bridesmaids dresses/colours, if you do black, all colours can still compliment but lighter tones would contrast against the black. If you do a deep purple, teal would look great (our bridesmaids are in purple and teal for our wedding).

I really love the idea of a black wedding dress. It can be done so tastefully that whatever your girls wear, they’ll compliment you well ☺️

None! If anything my FH got a couple people bugging him about the fact that he didn't do it because "it's the guys job", but my family just thought it was so me.

Plus, I proposed Dec. 30 2017 and we didn't announce our engagement for like 2 weeks because my Fiancé insisted he still get my Dad's permission even though it was after the fact.

I'm sure if your FH were to still ask your Dad for permission that would help a whole heck of a lot? Not much the families can do now though!

I am really not sure for shape. Just know I don't really like the mermaid style. I am hoping to have either black or a dark purple but it's still fairly early in the planning process so I like the idea of waiting for BM dresses. Thank you 😊

Thank you. Tori have you recieved any backlash for being the proposer?? I'm a bit nervous about telling me family how it happened but I know the question is coming.... My family is super traditional so the fact that we want a unique non traditional wedding is my biggest scare right now lol

I think that you can do whatever you want to! As long as you feel like a bride - that's all that matters.

I agree that the colour of the BM dresses should be picked after your dress colour is chosen but with that being said, the colour options for them IMO should be background colours that aren't bold. (Such as grey, blush, champagne, lavender, etc.)

P.S. Congrats on the engagement and welcome to the WW community!

P.P.S. I proposed to my FH as well Smiley smile

I love the idea of having a dark wedding dress. It can really look sophisticated and unique. What kind of shape and colour are you looking for your dress? If it's something really deep, I think having your bridesmaids in a grey would look great.
