No sit down dinner, how to make it happen?

Trudy, on January 8, 2019 at 14:08 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 3

Hi all!

My fiance and I are toying with the idea of not having a sit down dinner. Instead we could have many courses served throughout the night (essentially continuous food availability) and having sit tables and chairs for about 60% of our guests plus bar height tables for another 20-30% of the guests.

We have a lot of out of town guests coming and we don't want to spend 2 hours at a head table when we could be mingling with people who came so far to celebrate with us. We are getting married outside, at his family cabin back yard.

My questions are:

Does that seating sound reasonable?

What kind of food should we serve? We still want it to be delicious and we have a healthy budget!

Thanks for the help!

I think that the seating should be fine depending on what your guest count is. If you have 50 people then chairs for 60% is 30 people and then 10 with the high tables and 10 walking. BUT - if you have a guest count like mine at 250 then that 60% turns into 150, with 75 at the high tables, and 25 people standing and walking. Still not the worst thing but the higher the guest count the more I would recommend at least having back up chairs available.

For the types of food... hmmm... options are endless! lol Basically anything from M&M's would work like a quiche or even teriyaki chicken would work fine with some toothpicks! A big hit at the Beer Fest here in Winnipeg is the unlimited poutine bar and the veggies and hummus.

I think that's a great idea! Sounds like a super classy party to me just snacks and munchies all night long! I say as long as you do offer seats for those who want to take a seat it sounds like an excellent idea! And if you have a good budget you can get sooooo many tasty bites instead of a full meal! Go for it!

That sounds fun. almost like a whole night of a cocktail hour! Smiley smile

In terms of food. i would go with more items that are finger food/easy to munch style. and maybe a couple of stations with small servings of a pasta or a meat etc.
