No big reception, so what time?!

Shla, on June 5, 2019 at 09:53 Posted in Wedding reception 0 12
Hey all.

We aren't having a traditional party reception, we see no point in it. But we're having a hard time deciding between a brunch reception or an afternoon/early evening reception. Any suggestions?

We have a lot of kids and retired people on the list - it's like 90% of our list, honestly haha - so we want to have everything said and done by 8pm at the latest.

We're trying to book our officiant and he needs an idea of ceremony time so we need to nail it down. Help!!

My venue is also catering and so they did the timeline roughly for us. We have the room from 8-5 and we decided to do the ceremony at 10 and then do pictures right after. They are serving lunch at 2 which is a build your own taco station lol. Im just going to have some music playing quietly in the background, maybe a few games,MAYBE speeches if anyone is brave enough. But overall its going to be quick and simple. I have 3 guests who are older and cant drive at night and possibly a couple with 2 kids coming from another province. so we found it would be just easier to do it earlier. its also way cheaper. I think ceremony with a lunch leaves you more time to take pictures or change if you want to or just visit.

I love the idea of brunch weddings! If you’re a morning person, I think this is awesome. Most hair and l makeup wouldn’t book before 9am without charging extra so that is something to consider if you’re hiring someone to do that for you.

I love brunch weddings. I went to one that had a very quick morning ceremony, a brunch buffet with a selection of vegetarian quiches, fruit, cheese and pastries, there was virgin mimosas for cocktail hour and the whole thing was done by 3 pm. They are getting very popular nowadays.

Brunch reception seems the best way for your guests to enjoy their time. Thinking about the elderly and children, they can enjoy the daytime so that the evening they won't fall asleep or leave early during the evening.

I like the brunch option best! I think it's the best option behind a traditional dinner reception.

Brunch foods basically fir our theme the best, haha. I can't see any other food.but my fiance is afraid it may be too early for his friends coming from Toronto. I keep trying though. I love it lol.

Brunch is probably me favourite idea, honestly. Especially with our Whimsical theme! I hadn't thought of the naps so I'll mention that to the fiance, too.

I third the Brunch option! You could start your ceremony at like 11am and then have everything done late afternoon. You will be able to accommodate both kids and adults with the food served at Brunch as well.

I would go with a brunch wedding!

Most kids take their naps after lunch time so if you were to do an early afternoon wedding it would be right smack dab in the middle of that.
