New from up north and low budget!

Leah, on February 12, 2017 at 16:37 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 10

Hi,

My wedding is coming up fast in April. Low budget wedding since most of our money goes towards the 5 kids that we have between us to pay for their sports (hockey, swimming and karate). We've been together for almost 13 months and engaged for 8! I love origami so our decorations are origami. My mom has become an origami flower goddess! Our kids will be 6, 7, 8, 9 and 9 on our wedding day. Got my dress last summer when my mom was up for a visit. I tried on 3 and loved one enough to stop thinking about dresses.

We are getting married in a Christian room at the school that I teach at and the reception will be in the cafeteria and we are having a potluck supper. Right now we have 100 confirmed guests with 33% being children. We chose my school so we could do the reception our way and not pay for a caterer so that we could invite more family to come. My bff here is our officiant since in Quebec we can designate whoever we want as long as they don't have a criminal record. So to get married we only have to pay the court filing fee of $54.75 after the ceremony (plus a small fee to my school to use the two rooms).

I am getting really excited. I can't wait until March Break so I can have a week to finish up my paper origami flowers!

Wow amazing! Love the organization, and such great ideas to keep costs down! I might have to look into designating an officiant as well. Had no idea we could do that!

These are what I have done so far: hundreds of paper cranes for hanging decorations and the altra backdrop. INvitations, flowers for boutineers, fortune tellers for the ceremony, and my bouquet. Boutineers for the guys will wait until they have bought their dress shirts and then I'll make them. Plus my daughter wants to glue the buttons on them. My bouquet is 70% finsihed.

Yes, well that is exactly why I am intrigued by this and may go the same route as you, because 400-450$ is a looootttttt of money (considering our teeny budget lol). Thanks for the info Smiley smile and yes, do please share how your wedding turns out! I am also excited to see what kinds of origami decorations you make! Will you do mostly flowers since your mom is now the origami flower goddess? 😍

You should check it out: http://www.justice.gouv.qc.ca/english/formulaires/mariage/celebrant-a.htm It is free to designate someone. We sent in the application early October and she was desginated as an officiant on Oct 26th. She just received the declaration of marriage this week two months before the ceremony (I was told she would get it two weeks before the ceremony). I have worked with her to make sure everything has been followed to the letter confirming our identities, and posting the notice of marriage which we did last week. Going through regular officiants can cost almost $400.

Yay!!! So exciting!!! Also, I was not aware of that thing you mentioned about us being able to designate whomever so long as they don't have a criminal record! I may have to look into that.... Anyways, congratulations! Your plans sound good perfect Smiley smile
