Wedding planning and prep takes a lot. Decide what are your must have's and can do without if it doesn't get done. Having it at home can be more stressful than a small venue because you have to think about rentals, having your gardens and house ready. Try to enlist as many friends as possible...even those not invited, you'd be surprised asking for help.

For the food, start asking friends for help on making things and do what you can ahead of time, like baked goods and dishes that can be frozen then just thawed out and eaten or heated & served.

Use paper products for your plates etc so you don't have to do much for clean up.

Bottom line, take a breath, take a step back regroup your mind, go on a fun date with your finance to just be together, then go back at it.

I have found a lot of our decorations, even my veil on Facebook market place.

    Good luck.

Hey Tara, I have two ideas for you that could help with you feeling overwhelmed. The first is to consider pushing your date back. If you are feeling like wedding planning is taking over your life, or like you can't get it all done or don't know how to cross things off your list, giving yourself a longer deadline might help you feel like you have more time to prepare and ease off the pressure.

My next suggestion is to hire a wedding planner. While checklists and our articles and the members of this community are all here to help give you the advice and info and encouragement you need to plan your wedding, if you're still feeling totally lost, or aren't interested in doing the planning yourself, or don't have the time, or anything like that, then offloading some or all of the tasks to a pro planner, or even an all-inclusive venue, could be a serious lifesaver. Wedding planning isn't fun for everyone so if it is making your unhappy, delegating could be your best path!

I also grew up in care so I get how stressful doing all this on your own can be. The woman that bought my dress (my adoptive mom) was the woman who raised me and she is 87 years old now so she can't really help with much so I'm doing it on my own with some help (ideas) from my FH. I'm here if you need someone to bounce ideas off of.

Ah, ok. That shouldn't be too hard either. I've seen a bunch of rustic wedding decor on the NB Facebook sale pages. Wooden signs, mason jars, a little mismatched centerpieces.

Are you doing casual BBQ/potluck style? Or catering? 30 people shouldn't be too hard to feed.

Let's look at the big stuff. Guest list, budget, and your wish list. They all tie in together.

Do you have a budget yet? If not I would figure out what you can afford. How many people are coming? Are you both agreeing on the number of guests? This will help you figure out the cost of food, drinks, rentals like chairs or tents for your yard. What can you love without and what would you be heartbroken to skip. For us it was photos we couldn't skimp on, but we agreed we didn't need to have a dinner.
I see on your profile you are having a vintage wedding. Look into Facebook yard sale pages. You can find second hand wedding supplies andaybe other vintage looking items (mirrors, vases etc).

Hey Tara! It sucks that you're feeling overwhelmed.

Is there someone in your wedding party or a close friend (or several!) That you feel like you can delegate to? Even just having someone who you can text or talk with to vent about your stress can be super helpful.
You can always talk to us too! I've found the brides and groom's to be on this site are really supportive and creative.
Is there any particular area that feels the most stressful right now?

My parents arent helping at all. apparently they dont really care LOL!! google a wedding planning list online but the big stuff is the hall, dj, decor, flowers, dress, ceremony, suits, food (if not getting from the hall) thats the big stuff everything else is small and you have time.

Well those colours sounds nice - but I may be bias since one of my colours was copper Smiley tongue

Don't worry about it, you've got loads of time still!! Perhaps you could set one day aside as your wedding planning day of the week so you don't stress too much about it? And if it helps - even though both of my parents and my DH's parents are around I'm so much of a control freak that they didn't really help all that much when it came to the planning of the wedding.

Just keep thinking though - all you NEED in order to get married is; you, your FH, the legal papers, a registered officiant, and the rest is all bonus!! The rest is just for the party and parties are great - but not the reason people get together. The reason is that you are getting married and they want to be there for you.

Congrats first off and welcome to the community that will give you guidance and help in any manner you need.

I was in the same boat as planning on my own for the most part. The way I looked at this was based on the venue and what it had to get ideas what was needed and unneeded. The major part of vendors and décor part were considered.

    Videographer

    Photographer

    DJ

    Officiant

    Baker for cake

    Rentals for centerpieces/money box/floral ball & backdrop

    What was not needed:

    flowers

    Wedding arch/décor

    Transportation

Favours can work in your budget based on what your wanting to spend and what you want to give. Some couples give chocolate/candy/gifts being useful/jelly/wine. Work out what is beneficial to your best interest and work towards the amount you have in mind with your vendors.
